For a bit of a change up, it will get burgundy upholstery and top.

It makes me feel like I actually know how to weld after all :). After fighting with my 25 year old Century MIG for the last few years, this Miller makes it fun again. Amazing what 25 years of technological improvements can do, a chimp could do this blinfolded [;):D
 
Mounted the drive axle and started making the battery tray. This time I put the batteries together in a 3x3 group and pushed them back to the motor, instead of the stock cart layout which spreads them out like in my first cart build (last pic). This makes the frame design simpler and probably stronger.

Bit more done, finished the battery tray, made shock mounts apinched the front rails and bent some pipe for the front axle.

I made a simple jig to hold the golf cart hubs and spindles square and built a 6" drop axle to fit. Cut off the cart steering arms and tacked them on in the new position and lengthened the tie rod.

The Cragars arrived today so I whipped them over to the tire shop to get mounted. Now I can sort out the front suspension.

Thanks, it's hard to go wrong with a classic wheel like the Cragar S/S.:)
Made these trailing arms for the front end today, kind of my take on early Ford "split bones". Made from 1x2" tube that I split and tapered, made front tabs from 1/2" plate and fitted tie rod ends from a 41 Chev PU tie rod I had in the pile in my shed, they are 27" long.

I got the trailing arms mounted, added the front crossmember to the frame and tacked the spring shackle mounts to the trailing arms. since the trailing arms don't have much triangulation to the axle, I'll need to add a Panhard rod to keep things centered. Shocks, suicide spring mount and steering rack come next.

Aside from adding some gussets to the rack and front spring mounts and some finish welding, the front suspension is complete.

Figured out the placement of the stop and go pedals, basically had to duplicate the way they were mounted on the stock cart so the park brake button works properly. I mounted a Wilwood master cylinder to work the rear brakes, no more wimpy cable operated 6" drum brakes - I have an 11" disc brake kit that will go on next. Also mounted the V-glide (black box) which is the potentiometer or throttle that connects to the go pedal.

Installed the rear discs today. I used a kit from Jegs , 11 1/2" disc kit for a Ford 9" rear end - came with calipers, pads brackets, hardware, hoses and even the tabs to weld on to hold the hose ends. Super easy to adapt to the Club car housing ends, just a bit of trimming and filing the holes on the housing brackets and they fit right on. Only other mod was to turn down the wheel adapters 1/8" on the lathe so the rotors would fit over them. Just need one more brake line and the brake system is complete.
