How do i unlock a door that is locked?

The door plunger came off and the door is stuck in the locked position.. the door handle will not unlock the door.

it is the rear door on the driver side -- also its a suicide door..

If you mean by the plunger where the unlock inside knob attatches,you should be able to take a small pair of visegrips and pull it up,or snake a wire down to pull the rod up.Brian
