I also have been trying to figure out how to redo the bare metal on the truck. I tried a few options this morning with no success on getting a look I liked. I did some research and went and bought a drum sanding metal prep tool. I started playing with it and I think I found what I was looking for!!!

That looks like it gives a nice clean finish!

Vice Grip Garage is selling a wipe or spray on clear coat that is intended to provide mechanical adhesion rather that the chemical.adhesion of a regular clear coat. Haven't used it though. I'm not sure how it compares to that Permalac stuff you like.

That looks good, but. If you don't want to buy new tools I us my double orbital sander with 150 grit, give or take.
Hope it helps someone :D

Yeah I've used a da sander in a few cases before. I will probably have to in a few tight spots . I should be close enough to the same finish

Busy day!! My oldest helped me all day!! We got all the fenders cleaned and re installed. I also polished the sides of the box. Then I sprayed 3 coats of permelac clean on the whole thing!! After dinner the family will go out and help me install the wood!!!
We also installed a new air tank

My Kids used to help me working on the cars when they were young. Kind a bummed though as it never really stuck with either of them. They just drive now and when things happen they bring the cars to me. :( Still happy they were involved though. Jim

Yeah I know it's only a matter of time before the girls don't want to have anything to do with helping me in the shop. My youngest to like being out there but they want to play. This is the first time my oldest is really shown interest in wanting to help. The way I look at it even if they don't pick up the car thing if they have a decent work ethic and aren't hooked on drugs it's a win my friend

Enjoy and cherish the moments, LB.

Thank you, I definitely am. I was supposed to go play in the snow today, but we got up to the parking lot and my buddy's bike wouldn't start. So I am now headed home and we are going to finish the wood bed in the truck

New lower control arms installed. Upper arms should be here this week. The truck will go outside and get a bath after I get the air ride working properly again. It's filthy!!! Also got the bed reassembled!!

My 2 did get a great work ethic. Both had jobs when they were of age, sometimes more than 1. My Daughter became a Vet Tech working at a Vet cancer center and my Son is a Civil Engineer working for the next town over from us. Very proud of how they turned out. Jim

Seems like you did a good job!! Hope mine stay on the straight and narrow!!

First time in minter fab history, my beloved 50 is on the lift! Started tear down of the old air system, ordered a new set of front bags. Removed the repurposed home brewed shifter in preparation to install my new one. Also installed new bump stops in the back
