Seriously thinking of picking this Mercury up if I can get it for a good price. Really wished it was a 2 door.I have a 51 Merc flathead and overdrive sitting in the garage.

BTW...My Mercury started life as a more door.



This 4-door was at the Daytona Turkey Run last year. I thought it was cool.

I just happen to have a cherry stainless 49-50 Merc grille AND a pair of 49 Merc taillights (with NOS bluedot lense) I would let go. Let me know if you're interested. BTW, I like the Merc.....chopped, dropped, and black....oh yeah!

I think it's a stigma that will never really go away as long as "old timers" are around. It's been lost a bit with the younger generations but there was a time when 4 doors were just not acceptable as rod/custom fodder. They were considerded "your parents family sedan" and not cool at all. I remember when I was a youngster, being around my dad and his buddies and hearing them talk about it and living it. Now that the ready supply of old cars isn't what it used to be, and there's no real distinction in newer car models, many younger people don't realize that it was a line in the sand that was rarely crossed in decades past. I'm glad to see any old car saved...no matter the number of doors.

Most of the four door models of any car just don't have the same lines as the two door models, that's another reason they are frowned upon. Now that said, there are exceptions to every rule, you just have to find one. That Merc, IMHO is one of the exceptions. Another might be that 66 Pontiac hardtop that's in the for sale section. Both have smooth, flowing lines, so the extra door just fits in, instead of looking like an add on.
