Vortec Heads No Mas

Well, I popped the heads on and they won't work. The spark plug boss comes very close to the dome of the piston. So, Plan B. I cleaned up and installed the World Sportsman II heads that were on the broken engine in the Anglia. Dug a Victor Jr. intake and some swap meet valve covers out of my stack of stuff and pressed them into service.

Nothing is ever easy.

With age comes wisdom and experience. Should make this hot rod thing easier. Hah! Had trouble fitting the Powerglide to the engine. My really good torque converter fit too tight between the flex plate and the front pump. Changed flex plates. Same thing. That converter worked fine before with a different engine and trans. Finally I took the grubby converter that came with the trans and cleaned it up. It fits fine. And yes, the first converter was fully seated in the front pump drive lugs. Well, anyway, I got the whole works in the Renault after supper. Here she sits.

I adjusted the valves. 1/2 turn. I got to thinking. What cam did I put in? Ah, the Crower. Solid lifter cam. Found the lifter box. Yep, solid lifters. Fixed that situation right quick.

Good to keep things around like that. Some people look weird at me when they see some of the junk I hang on to. For my buds, this is Dick's Hardware!

More parts going on. Had to set the pinion angle to match the engine angle. The triangulated upper bars didn't have enough adjustment so I lengthened them. To recap, theMustang ll front suspension was replaced with a parallel leaf spring tube axle. A different sbc was assembled and installed 10 inches forward of its former location. A Powerglide replaces the 700r4. Plus other lesser changes. I hope it is worth the effort.

I work on it every day. Getting closer. Since I can't reach the dashboard while sitting it was necessary to make a control panel and place it between the seats. It is wired. Just have to run a hot lead to the fuse block and run wires from the terminal strip to the loads.

It's getting closer. The trans tunnel, driveshaft tunnel and floor are in. Painted. It will all be covered in insulation and carpet after everything checks out. Or maybe not.

The engine is mounted quite high, which created clearance problems with the hood. Now working on this "power bubble". If the velocity stack/air cleaner is a bit too much i can get a lower spacer and run a flatter cleaner. I had this stuff laying around. Here's a lower, larger unit and the K & N without the velocity stack. I really don't like any of them.

Yep all of them detract from the smooth look. Is it possible to keep it all under the hood using oval intake tubing from a late model to a filter down in front?

E-man, The carb itself is flush with the "power bubble". That's the air horn and choke blades. The answer is: Tunnel Ram with 2 4's.:D Or possibly an injector/blower scoop.
