I have bought 4 new cars in my life. 3 have been for me (Dodge trucks) and my wifes Saturn. The Saturn was different than the trucks in that we did all the research online before we did anything. Still was not a bad experience. Went in, said give us that one, this is what we will pay. Drove away with a new car. THe Dodges, I went to 2 different dealerships for the 3 trucks. Went in, said this is what I want, this is what I can pay, what can you do for me? In all three cases I drove off with a new truck.
Yesterday I went to a ford dealership in Bentonville. I really wanted the IHC diesel, and last years model was the last year with it. Worst experience ever. I layed out my wish list, like always. I wanted a diesel, regular cab, standard transmission. Not a hard list to fill. Salesman brings out a double cab automatic that cost 2k more than my house. Not what I want. Then he goes and gets the mythical "sales manager." This guy comes out and berates my truck and tells me what a favor hes doing me offering me 5 k for it. (less than 50k on the truck as i rarely drive it) and straight insulting my budget. I have a theory that I will never go to a non dodge dealer for a truck again, I dont care if Ford comes out with a truck that gets 1000 miles per gallon and costs nothing.

I do my home work first. I get the Kelly Blue Book on both vehicles. Then I go to the dealer and let them play a little then I hit them with my figures. Boy does that change there tune. I never brought and vehicle for over Blue book and always got Blue Book for my trade.

I just went through it with my Girl Friends car. She Totaled her last car and needed one bad. We were out looking when she seen a car she wanted We went in a start to talk to them about the car. I told them what I wanted and they did not want to deal. I hit them with the Blue book Figures and walked out.

I was making a deal on any other car at another dealer. The first dealer called and ask what I was doing and I told them that I had a deal on another car. They said that I should come back and talk about the car they had. So I went back and they started playing again and I said I told you what I wanted. Got ready to leave the second time when they said they would do it.

She got a 2006 Pontiac G6 GTP for $2,000 under book. 2 Door fully loaded. alot of car for the money.

Never let them know you really want that vehicle. I always say " I like it but I do not need it"

My Dad was the ultimate haggler when it came to buyin' new cars & I still use his method. I'm only gonna buy a car on my terms... period!!! 1st you need to know how car salesmen get paid (at least here in H-town)... they get a small sum throughout the month for each car they sell & then a bigger bonus if they make certain quotas. I start out at the beginning of the month... tell them what I want and after they say no... I say "call me when u're ready to deal" & walk out. I walk out at least 3 or 4 times that month. Then I go back right B4 the end of the month when they're scrambling to make quota & I usually get what I want. If not... I start over the next month. My wife hates this but I always get the best deal!!! If they don't want to deal... I find another brand that will!

The best deal is always one you are willing to walk away from. We have a great Dodge/Ford dealer here. It's small town and they don't play all the bull**it games the big dealers do.
I don't know why car salesman/dealerships have to be such slime. Probably because they hook so many dipwads playing those games. Another thing I hate is doc fees. I refuse to pay them to do their job and tell them right up front I will not pay doc fees and insist any price they quote is out the door price. Of course I haven't bought a car from a dealership in a while either.

My easiest deal was 2 yrs ago. I was buying outright, no trade, cash and I did the whole deal by E-Mail with a dealer about 50 miles away. They had what I wanted and I knew they had had on the lot quite a while.

I use this same technique but I also do it in November everyone is focused on Christmas and holding on to the dollar.

Here's how I do it:
1. Walk in the dealership with my wife.
2. She points at one and says "I like it".
3. I ask the salesman, "How much".
4. He tells me.
5. I pay.
Takes 10 minutes, costs thousands extra.
