my 1988 gmc 2500k just isnt quite up to the tasks i demand of it.
so my sweety told me i needed a new truck (bless her lil heart)
my buddy has a bone disease and cant push in a clutch anymore.
so i am buying his 2001 dodge 3500 quad cab dually with the 5.9 L cummins turbo diesel
6 speed manual tranny
yikes!
this thing is a brute.
anyway i am jazzed about my new toy hauler/toy/tool
pics soon.

My suggestion would be to buy you a edge juice with attitude programmer. It's amazing what it can do for your mileage and how much more power you will have.

I've had four cummins trucks now, wouldn't own anything else.

Those 2001 Dodges have a small problem if you do a edge box . The supply pump will fail with no warning. When it fails it will kill the VP 44 injector pump. Major $$$$ to repair or replace. I would install a low fuel pressure warning kit. It is available from several hot rod diesel suppliers. It is just a little LED light that is hooked to a sending unit that screws into the low pressure fuel supply.

i dont want to tinker with this thing.
i am sick of screwing around with regular cars and trucks just to keep them running .
my goal is a powerful , reliable truck i can just drive.
and besides routine maintenence.
not touch it.

They have plenty of power stock I think. My brother in law chipped his 20212 and the clutch immediately began to slip, had to put a high performance clutch in. I wish you could get a cummins in a Super Duty, that would be my ideal truck. Love the cummins, don't much care for the way Dodges drive, not the 4x4s anyway. Even so, I wish I could have got a 2wd dually cummins for what I paid for my 2000 P/S 6 speed.

It's not always about power. I put 45k on my truck last year and the extra mpg's are well worth the cost. As far as a the clutch slipping, good programmers will detect it and will cut power before you ever realize what happened. The edge programmers have so many fail saves that they do a great deal to protect your drivetrain. They will allow your engine to continue running after your key is turned off till your turbo cools to a save temp, and they detect to high of egt temps and cut power till a safe temp is obtained. They will also read trans temps. The extra power is only a bonus.

Have you figured out why people who drive a dually park in the middle of two parking spaces? They don't make the spaces big enough!!

i paid $8500
it came with a gooseneck tow package very good tires and a van aaken performance box/chip.
and it needs a new APPS which i found for $160 shipped by scouring the web.
it runs fantastic and has more balls than any truck i ever thought i would actually own.
my old 88 GMC seemed like it was getting ready to start having to need parts replaced more and more.
so i wanted to get out from under it.
i drove that for 2 years hauling cars all over the west
texas,colorado and new mexico.
and i sold it for what i paid for it.

after spending way too much time on the intergooglyweb.
i found that with the van aaken chip installed
305 hp
672@1600 rpm torque

i used it to haul my gals 53 buick special to the shop.
since my 73 year old buddy knows the city better than i do i had him drive it.
his response?
i should never got in this thing
cuz now i want one!

They are great trucks..I've had a 91 a 95 a 97 a 2001 and now a 2012..the 12 is a beast but the 97 was my favorite..but they've all been great..congrats..that's a good lookin truck

instead of buying a house right away we are going to get a BIG 5th wheel trailer.
we went window shopping yesterday and was looking at 35-40 foot ones
and a salesman asked
what are you going to use to pull with?
i pointed at the dodge
and the first thing he said was
is that a gas or diesel?
when i told him the cummins he said.
that'll pulll anything on this lot.
that made me feel good.
