Hi,
So...this may sound silly but my boyfriend just got a Rat Rod and is rebuilding it. I am a firm believer that when you 'play together' you 'stay together' and he asked if I'd like to help work on it with him.

Now...here is where you all come in... I have NO knowledge of Rat Rods as of yet. I am hoping that I can learn some stuff here, maybe surprise him and even better come up with some cool 'surprise gifts' along they way to make it a fun an exciting adventure together.

That's my story... stickin' to it. (ha ha)

If anyone has any pointers, links, sites, suggestions...I'm all ears! I am sure I'll have tons of questions as I go. I starting to go thru the forums and threads as we speak!!

Thanks for all your help!!

Hi and welcome, I like your attitude. In the latest Street Rodder magazine there is a really nice 30 Ford Coupe that a guy and his wife build together. She did all the metal work on the body and the paint job on it and on the frame.Thats teamwork, wish my wife would come out and help me. Anyhow, if you could give us some more info and maybe pictures so we know what make/model/year/type of rat rod you guys have or are building and what you want to change on it, it will be easier to help.

Welcome

By the way..

My 1st wife had no interests in my cars, builds, ect. Again, I say my "ex-wife". My current wife and my daughter both love cars as much as I do, and we all work on them together. My current wife and I both have built several Ford Model A's, a few VW bugs, and 1957 VW Kombi, and an MGDT kit car, and a couple Jeeps together, and we plan to die together.. So, yeah, i think it has allot to do with logevity..

So it goes like this: "What'cha workin on?"
"We picked up this sweet, (insert year, and make, and use slang terms if they apply, like coupe, sedan, poncho, lead sled, etc.) at the local swap meet, ( or craigs list, or ebay, or out of the paper) for cheap, (it is always cheap, even when it is not. Buy low sell high). It needs a few things, (like a title, or engine) but it is a cherry. It has got a little rust at the bottom, ( you can see through it), but I think we can make it look great,( with a few years of hard work). First we have to buy a few tools, (like a welder, and an overhead crane, or maybe a cnc machine), and then we have to put heat out in the garage, ( and windows and a roof), but I figure we will be driving it by spring, (don't say what year)."

Thanks!! You guys have all been amazing... I have some homework to do!! I will try to get some pics asap and post them. I did learn last evening that we have a Buick Nailhead Engine... 54-56, 264. The body is a mish-mash of a few things but I didn't catch it all...working on trying to memorize it all when he tell me... I will continue to ask more questions. I'm heading out to find the RatRodMagazine as we speak.

Be back soon...

Thanks again!!

What a woman!!!

Read though some of the builds in the "Builds" forum so you will get a handle on some of the terminology and maybe even get some ideas you can add to the rebuild.

Not gonna find the magazine on the newstands yet.

Rat Rod Magazine is very new (only since about May of 2010). They are VERY hard to find at newstands because they were very limited. They are right now working on the #6 issue that should be available world wide in March I think. The #6 issue is the first one that will be available world wide on newstands because they just recently signed with a big publisher. #1-#5 have all been privately published and offered only locally and their website. But, you can still get the #5 issue, and a couple of the other back issues on their website. It is a very good quality magazine and very "coffee table" worthy.

Go to their website and check em out..

Gotta love a woman who loves hot rods

Heck, my first wife burned all my car stuff... hated my drag racing, hated for me to be with my friends..... wouldn't even help me with my business.....don't even know why I ever married the b...Gal.....
My wife of now 30 years lets me play in the man cave and nextels me when dinner is ready.... (and doesn't get PO'd if I don't come in right away) she loves to cruise in my Bonne and my pickup and loves to go fast.... kinda....

sounds like this guy has a keeper...... you go girl.....

Wish my wife liked cars instead of Slo-Pitch baseball....:(

You've found the right site, there's a whole lotta great folks around here with the knowledge of "the rat kulture." Best of all, they're generous and willing to share![cl

Keep us posted and get your boyfriend to join up too, once you've popped the surprise on him. The more the merrier!:D

One good rule of thumb here....WE LIKE PICS!!!!!!!! [P

Regards,
Shea:)
