Looks like I can take this off my bucket list. If nothing goes south on me I will be gettin' this home next week some time.

It's a 55, I would prefer a 53 or 54 but this came along at good price(I think). It's runner and driver. I can't stand blue so that will change. However it won't be flat black with red wheels, not that there is anything wrong with that, just not on this car. Should be fun and the wife loves Studebakers.

Thats sweet! What are your plans? My friend had one. What impressed me was there was no typical for the time wind whistling around the windows. Just a quiet whoosh on the highway.

Thanks Eman. It has a flat six. I found a place that has goodies for this engine. Finned aluminum head, header and adapter for a T-5 tranny. If the guy is still around that could be fun. Summit Racing has dual carb intake. If I can get this stuff I will keep the six. Like I mentioned I don't like blue so that will change for sure.

Holy Smokes! Those are among my favorite body styles. They look fast sitting still and had styling ahead of their time I think. Nice job picking that one up c-dog.

I had a 1955 Commander 2 dr. back in 1965. It had (I believe) a 352 V8 3 spd column shift with O.D. trans. It was a great running car. My cousin had a 1958 Gold Hawk at the same time. I swear that thing could fly. [dr

Maybe just match the roof to the body color?
...here's a '53 I'm doing for a friend of mine...it's an old hot rod, has a Nailhead motor, Dynaflow trans, and the Buick torque tube/rearend assy. still in it!
That's all going away and getting replaced with an S-10 front subframe, Ford 9" rear, air bags, small block Chevy w/ 700r trans, louvered hood, and, a wedge chop...

Oh man!!!! I can just see that slammed, painted candy apple red, chrome rims with baby moons and a little pinstriping, black and white tuck n roll with twin glasspacks with chrome pencil tips.

Even basically stock those are sweet cars.

The '55 Speedster had a 289 V8 w/ twin Paxton superchargers.
the President had a 259 V8
the Commander had a 232 V8
the Champion had a 224 V8 & 185 inline 6

Don't dismiss the 55's looks. The big shark mouth grill gives it a menacing look, and when you put that with the Speedster's fast 289 twin superchargered engine, you got a potent beast.

Thanks guys, can't wait to dig in and get started. I was in junior high school the first time I actually paid any attention to the Loewy coupe's. Said I'm gonna have one someday. That was a loooooooooong time ago:D

Dmw56, I was able to get Bill's email and sent him a message. He is still at it. Said he doesn't know whats up with the site.

stude

Back in the day when I was in high school they were called the poor man's Vette. The golden hawk had a paxton super charger. I knew a old guy that had a golden hawk and a pickup truck (stude).
