...Occasionally we see someone post how they have a hard time finishing a project. Well when we think about it if a project is declared finished then it will be open for criticism. This can open old wounds if we had harsh criticism or especially ridicule as a young person.
...When we have trouble keeping motivated it can be that we dread the judgement or it can also be that we haven't been following our hearts on the build. Going for approval instead of expressing our originality is just working against ourselves.
...Rat Rods! Cheaper than therapy. Works for me [cl

I've often wondered how many people start a build
but never get it to the on the road stage.

Notice I didn't say get it finished. I don't know if there
is a finished state.

POPS

Yea I'm not sure if there is a finished state either... I think rats evolve even after they are on the road.

Honestly if you are building for other's approval, I think you are not in your right mind... Build what you like and use your own creativity to make it what you like...

Building a car, or anything for that matter, goes through stages. and somewhere in there is the," burn out , stuck, tired of it, over it, stage. Not to mention the low on funds stage, or the wife is tired of it, stage. Lots of reasons to let it go. But I suppose if someone was not happy with the way the build was going, that would be a reason to call it.

I get builders remorse every time I finish a build. That is I get nowhere near the enjoyment of a finished build as I do the build itself. So after many years of therapy I've learned to cope by never actually finishing a build. Currently I have at least 5 unfinished builds going....:D

Guess you haven't heard the hot rodders rule number 9004, "When your hot rod is finished you must sell it." I never finish a project, but have been know to sell one unfinished in violation of rule 9007...my bad

My Dad always taught me to finish what you started so I never have unfinished projects. Each car gets finished and I don't take on another project until the last one is sold.

Sometimes it's the "this part of the build really sucks" that kills it. Like a big un-fun part of the build is looming ahead so ya just shut down on it all.

Right now I have 2 'plan to get back to them' projects I drive. I also have one in the works and another in waiting to start. Not to mention the dozen or so in my head if I ever stumble upon the right vehicle for the right price.

Just thought about this. Rat rods are all about unfinished, so if you can't manage to get arat on the road, I guess you do have issues or you doing it wrong. I mean its not like you have to work for 20 hrs to get even gaps around the doors or weeks of sanding??

I intend to have four of them licensed. :) All these years and i never got one shiny one on the road.

Me?

Ok....y'all are talkin bout me....right? I'm gonna do it....get it on the road..I promise!.. It's like I been busy and stuff, you know? (Just kiddin'):D:D:D

As a kid i would drag something home and immediately start getting discouraged about all the problems i was facing to get it to that "impress everybody" condition. Couldn't appreciate what i had, all i would look at was the flaws. Then i would let it go for what i had in it, find something else and do the same thing over and over. Easy to do back when you could, and i did, buy something like a running '50 Ford tudor for $45.

Well i can't go back in time with a different attitude but i am finally having fun with old cars now, because Rat Rods Rule....for guys with my limitations anyway. :)

Most look at how much work as a whole a project is and start feeling overwhelmed.
Deadlines cause a stress situation too.
A project is just that, time consuming and needs to be done one step at a time. Like the, eating an elephant adage.
After all it's just nuts N bolts
