Just wondering what all you grease monkeys like to listen to while the sparks are flying and the wrenches are turning. I'd REALLY like it if someone would turn me onto some good rockabilly, "slap bass" stuff. I'd be even more appreciative if someone could give me a few good stations to punch into Pandora!

Lately I've been listening to a lot of Johnny Cash radio, but I'm really getting into the rockabilly stuff. I just can't find much out there. It's all either stuff you'd hear at a cruise-in (like beach boys) or Johnny Cash.....once and a while some Brian Setzer/stray cats stuff will come on. That's all good and fine but I want some current stuff to listen to. Anyone out there have anything they turn on every time the garage lights come on?

I don't know if it's rockabilly or whatever, but social distortion works for me. I'm more of a punker I guess. What rockabilly bands are there? I've only been to one rockabilly joint and that was years ago, the Tower in south san diego. Kicked ass with pbr cans. Other than that I don't remember much..

I like to down load on a flash drive, some Old with some New.

Here's some info on software to strip music from YouTube videos. http://www.technostriker.com/2012/06/10-online-services-to-convert-youtube.html

I use AudioTheft, it's free & was to use.

For later bands I dig Junkyard Preachers, The Devils Daughters, and although they've been around awhile I also like "The Kingbees". They have a a web radio station too http://www.allmusic.com/artist/the-kingbees-mn0000097531

As far as the old stuff goes you can't beat Carl Perkins and The Queen of Rockabilly herself Wanda Jackson in my opinion.

Yea I've actually been listening to Rev Horton Heat on pandora quite a bit, BUT the more I listen to it, the more Pandora keeps playing the old stuff.....last time I listened to it Pandora had "learned" itself too good and was playing mostly cruise-in tunes. Problem is, if I un-like the old stuff then it'll never play. Inline it sometimes, but I want more of the newer rockabilly stuff.

I do like the Devils Daughters but I can only find so much of their stuff online and I CANNOT find them on Pandora. I also like Imelda May, but pandora plays most of her old jazz type stuff rather than the rockabilly side.

I'll check out the stuff listed above and see what I can come up with. Thanks!

Plug these into your Pandora station seeds and proceed to work. You won't be disappointed -

The Amazing Royal Crowns
Hillbilly Casino
Nine Pound Hammer
Mad Sin
Th' Legendary Shack Shakers
American Sharks
Hillbilly Hellcats
Whiskey Daredevils
The Chop Tops
Koffin Kats
PsychoCharger
Three Bad Jacks
Nekromantix
Tiger Army (old stuff)

Hope you're ready to get some stuff done... [;)

I have that same problem with Pandora - if I leave it alone, it eventually wanders off into an area I didn't want to listen to, but if I rate stuff, it seems to head off in an even worse direction twice as fast. But, it is free, so I'm not complaining - it's just an observation I've made.

Never heard of any of those {except Johnny Cash}. I'm still living large with classic 60's, 70's and 80's rock. ZZ, Led Zep, Allmans, Skynrd, Moody Blues, Foreigner, Who, The Stones, many more.

Very seldom turn on the music in the shop anymore. Can't hear it for the air compressor anyway......

Well, at least I'm ahead of you...I've heard of two of them...but, I've got all the same ones you mentioned so we don't really need anything else, right? :)

Bama....you've got my music down...

I like basic three cord rock and roll....R&B and most of it in between...Stevie Ray Vaugh one of my favroites...occasionally some group trips my trigger like Velvet Revolver, (slither) Drowning pool...(let the bodies it the floor) Avenge Sevenfold (Hail to the king and some others) but honestly, I listen but don't really hear the music when I'm working in the barn...but I always have it going....sometimes too loud I'm told...lol..:D Some country rock is cool and there is always the oldies but goodies....so I guess a myriad of music to sooth the savage beast....

Actually, I never listen to music while working on the car. I tend to get real focused and ignore everything, except what I'm working on. Music for me is to enjoy while driving.

Bama I grew up with most of those bands, saw most of them in concerts. The best guitar players of that time Page, Claption, Beck, were all influenced by the Blues & Rockabilly. Here's Jeff Beck & Imalda May covering Les Paul & Mary Ford. They were Rock-a-Billy before it had a name. :D
