WOOWOO!!! I drove the rpu this evening. Sans the grill, windshield and lights. It runs awesome!! My buddy and I ran it up and down the road a few times and cooled it off before the cops could get here. It's LOUD, like a dirt track car!! And that little 260 really has some beans in that light car, the twin carbs work really well.. I cracked the throttle a little in second gear on a corner and it nearly came out from under me. The quarter eliptic rear springs seem to work really well, no wheel hop or any sign of bad manners. I never got past about 4500 in third and no speedo yet but maybe 45 mph.
Pictures in the next day or so when I have all the parts bolted on. I am really jazzed that the one off stuff I designed (twin carbs and quarter eliptic rear with the springs actually being the lower link in a triangulated 4 bar) seems to be working so well.
Pictures, I promise!!! Posting them up here won't poison it from getting in the mag will it Tripper?

Exciting, isn't it ??????? :D Nothing like that first ride. Now we want pictures and a video.

Don

Especially on a car that I started seven or eight years ago! It was actually kind of emotional, like when they play they play the Star Spangled Banner before a race. Kinda choked me up a little when I slid it into gear, eased out the clutch and rolled out of the garage.
I don't think this s**t eating grin will go away for days.

Very happy for you. Especially after a long build. It is cool that you have a lot of your own design and ideas in it.[cl

When I was reading your post I was picturing you and your buddy driving away down the road makin' noise and kickin' up some dust. The picture in my mind was in black and white.

I should have it ready for pics tomorrow and my daughter says she can do a video.
The diff housing was bottoming out on the rear cross member and I forgot to take care of that when I had the frame flipped over so I had to remove the gas tank today and notch the cross member. Also when I got it out in the light, I thought the rear end sat a little low. So I pulled the rear springs and made new ones today and raised it an inch, looks much better now. Amazing how an inch off can be the difference between nailing the stance or not.
