We put wooden eggs in our nest boxes because it makes hens lay in that box. We have a really broody hen that sat on one all day long so Mrs Tripper decided to get her a chick of her own. It took a couple days for her to adopt it but when the chick got up under her at night, that's all it took. Now she spends her days mothering it! Chickens don't feed their chicks but show them what to eat. I put down some cooked rice & she showed the chick it was food!
