Shock Question

My '59 has rear leaf springs and also had homemade shock mounts. My question is are the shock absorbers needed if I also have leaf springs?

Thanks for the reply Toad...Where can I buy the shock mount for the underside of the leaf springs? They were all bent up and needed to be replaced.

It is a '59 International pick up with the rear end from a pontiac trans am. I just found a site that sells the shock absorber lower mounting bracket. I will head to a junk yard and see if I can find one there first though.

Got any idea how they got bent up . I mean how could that be done with out hurting something else -like something you can't see .

They were bent when I bought the truck. I did have to use a bunch of persuasion to get the passenger side brake drum off. The brake being frozen up along with loose bolts on the leaf spring look to be the cause. They had the U-bolts directly over the leafs with no holders for the bolts so everything twisted when they launched. I hope this makes sense.

Sounds like it has been abused . Have you looked inside the pumpkin . Might have a monster on your hands .

I have not yet but maybe Friday. The family is in town until Thursday.
