Here a couple of pics of my 11year old son's 59 Chevy Rat Rod project. He almost has it paid for, so then it can come home from the old man he's buying it from. We have been kicking around some themes, he has some cool ideas ! Not sure yet ?? He's fired-up about it, bringing new drawings home everyday from school !!! It's already on a 73-87 Chev frame, disc brakes, ect. And he is getting a trailer load of parts to go with it, fenders, grille,doors, and hood ect.

Hey Shakey, My son Cam, said to tell you he's still a "Mouse" not a "Rat" yet !!! And make no mistake, he's a Chevy man too ! He always says the only Ford he would want to own is a (quote) " 67 Shelby GT 500 ".
I guess dream big, right !

Hey Hillbilly, Tell Cam my Ford truck is "built Ford tough with Chevy stuff"! (Man....I know I'll catch you know what from some of the guys for that statement!)

Cam's truck is finally sitting in our driveway !! Now the fun begins ! We are going to hang the front sheetmetal on see how much room we have on the front width. We are thinking the 79 chev truck frame may be a little too wide to really slam the body down over the chassis ?? Thought about S-10 chassis so it would give us more room ? Or even do a custom frame and really chop the truck up, and even do the fleetside bed sides on the inside of the rear wheels , ect. Although the fullsize chassis under this truck is all there and hooked up, other than the steering box. Still kicking ideas of what direction we want to go ??

Working on moving the rear leaf springs under the rear end, which should lower it down about 5". Will install new spring eyelet bushings while they are off. Thinking about getting rid of the mess in the middle of the hacked up dash. Not sure whether to smooth the dash all the way across, or keep a eye out for some cool dash cluster out of something else ?? May find something at the Turkey Run in Daytona ?

My 56 Chevy truck had a mid seventies truck chassis when I bought it. I know what you mean about being too wide. My solution was to graft a 79 Olds 88 front stub on it. I used a narrowed Ford 9" out back. Your project looks great! Keep up the good work and good luck.

We are starting back on Cam's 59. We got the front clip bolted together, ready to sit on and check fit ect. We cut a couple of coils out of the front springs, and installed new lower ball joints. Cam's scraping and cleaning before installing the new ball joints. Will post new pic with his new ride height. He is working and saving his money to buy a 60's 283 block that has already had all the machine work done. We will leave the 6 cyl in for now , so we can move it around, ect.

Cam has a couple of 6" steel wheels which are currently being sandblasted by a friend. He will run a little smaller tire also, so I think he will be OK on the steering. Was alittle worried about the width before hanging the front end on it. Probably paint them gloss black, and he has a set of 8" chrome reverse set for the rear. He says when he gets a V8 in it, he wants to run the exhaust through the side of the bed somewhere ?? Mostly all his own ideas, I'm here mostly for the grunt work and the common sense department !!
