A *real* tin magnet
I have a hopped up 6 banger (not chevy) and have driven it for years. Here's my take
The good;
Looks cool and easy to work on
The bad;
Takes just as much money to build as a V8 and you have half as much power when your done
Crappy fuel economy
Sounds like barf with loud pipes (My opinion only, yours may differ)
So a nice stock 283 power pack will still run circles around a mildly built up six, sound cooler and get way better mileage.
The wow factor of popping the hood and seeing a 270/302 Jimmy with triple carbs, Judson magneto, headers and Offy valve cover is undeniable. Throw in a Wayne or Horning cross flow head, Weber side drafts or injection stacks, now we're talking.
