NASCAR; how to tech damaged post race car??

lf in the wrong place, feel free to move.

l have watched more racing than ever since gettin' hurt at work and the one question no one can seem to answer on the nascar race's is:

how do they tech the wrecked cars post race if they win or are chosen for tear down inspection?

last week one of the cars was damaged just pushing it into victory circle and cost the team points and money.

Guess I haven't watched NASCAR in awhile. How do you loose points for damaging your car? Are they judged on cleanliness or something now too? [S

wrecker/push truck or people pushing the car

ln the story l heard, one of the cars they choose for post race inspection was pushed up to the inspection area and pushing on it somehow damaged the body or where the body attaches to chassis.

not sure on how the team/owner veiwed the damaged area, was it damaged in the race or after? but to nascar, it didn't matter if before, during or after race caused it, but said, "hey, not our problem the car was damaged after we choose it, so it's on you guys".

which is why l asked this [S:confused: ??

I think your referring to Clint Bowyers car last year at New Hampshire. He was celebrating winning, but ran out of gas and had to be pushed back to victory lane....supposedly while it was being pushed it moved the rear fender area about the thickness of a quarter. The officials measure several points around the car with a big skeletal template that is supposed to fit the car. In his situation the rear fender area was up higher then allowed which will help the air flow over the spoiler and rear deck area giving more down force, making the car handle that little bit better.

The teams spend so much time in the wind tunnels they find a couple of thousands here and a few thousands there can vastly improve the handling caracteristics of the cars. Did the wrecker move the rear fender area in Bowyers case...I really doubt it and obvioulsy the officials didn't think it was caused by the wrecker either. Ooops someone must have slightly altered something along the way.
