The DAY has come,......Project WASBUG

Looks like I get to start me BUILD THREAD,....whooohoooooo! 3 years looking at everyone elses projects getting drool all over my keyboards, now finally get to get my knuckles dirty.

Finally sold my old 87 Vette and went out and got me a vintage 1963 type 1 Volkswagon Beetle (aka just an old bug).
Got me a solid pan, body (almost hate to cut it,..NOT!), good running fresh rebuilt 1600cc, narrowed front axle, front disc brake kit, new fuel tank and fresh wiring. Now the added goodies a freshly rebuilt 1915cc. new rear 2" wider rear fenders, fiberglass rear apron, fiberglass deck lid, ond one of those Drag wings that I can sell on Ebay or barter for ?

I have attached a few pics to start the THREAD. My schetches of what I'm trying to achive (look wise) in the build, and what I'm starting with.

Stripped the fenders, running board and side windows out today, Im not going to have much body work under the fenders the metals complete and not dented up,...

Wow,that bug is in really nice shape.Looks like it will be a cool project,should be awesome when its done.Make sure you take lots of pics. I am supposed to do a bus for my wife sometime,she is turning into a hippie or something.

Here's some updated oics of my project. Got the fenders, running board removed. Mr Gusset came over and we took the glass out. Started cutting,........ MORE TO COME!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The guy I got it from thought I was gonna do a SoCal look with it,.. He will definiently loose it when he sees it. It's really solid, kinda didn't want to use it for the project,...NOT

You can't cut that bug up! It's in way too good condition!

Yeah...I would not show it to him. Cutting a pre-67 bug will make the bug guys cry! Now if it was a 70-something or a super beetle no big deal...

Anyway looks to be a good start!

Dashing photo

Not much work on the project put 89hrs in at work this week, but did manage to get in the garage today and sand, paint, two tone paint then paint wood grain on my dash.

Not bad for a couple rattle cans, couple cotton balls and a paint marker,..

Thinking of using bamboo mats for the door panels, just because i have a couple laying around. probably cover the seats with a couple old beach towels.

It's good to see another VW fan here. I'm trying to do something with my '61 Ghia but work and the weather keep getting in the way. Mine will never be the quality work like yours but, it's going to take me years just to slap it together without the quality. Good luck with it. You're doing great.[cl
