Good day yesterday found a set of spark plug wires, installed and coil remounted. Ron finished up around the trunk lid. Looking like final coat of primer and paint is coming soon. Starting to install the efi wiring harness today along with our exhaustO2 sensor. Probably start wiring the dash before much Longer.

Seats come back out today to move them back a couple of inches since our upholstery person increased the thickness of the back of the seat by about 2-3”. The interior side panels will be reinstalled before the seats go back for the final. We’re trying to get everything completed to minimize crawling in or out of the car before paint later this week…we can’t hardly contain ourselves to start blowing color.

Installed the new side kick panels while the seats were out for the adjustment. Brought the side rails from storage for a preview. Also, by finishing the cockpit we don’t have to work over fresh paint if we were to delay much longer. Timing was good to get this project finished.

We’ve started wiring the car. For those of you who have been following for while, if you recall Ron was pretty adamant about rewiring the car. I posted a couple of pictures for those who may have missed he previous pictures of my wiring job when it was built. Well yesterday Ron was once again adamant about some of the wiring. I have no idea why he’s so demanding! These wires have been working for well over 50 years. Some of these wires are “antique” with cloth type insulation. Why would anyone want to change?!!
Nothing a little electrical tape couldn’t fix and besides you can’t buy electrical tape that lasts this long any more.

Getting the new wiring harness sorted out and connected. We finished wiring the ignition switch and have our wires identified to complete the headlight switch. A few more days and we will have one more piece completed!

Some of that wiring looks about like what was on my car when I got it. Scary! Good thing about mine was none of it was hooked up, they wired the engine with all red wire and that's all that was hooked up.

Great week of progress. Finished wiring almost all of the systems this week. If we had fuel we could be back under power. Still a little work to do on the tank and fuel system with the new EFI. We’re still waiting on Edelbrock to ship our fuel system parts. I’m starting to think we’ll have to move forward w/o the kit and piece it together.

A slight difference between doing this at 15 vs. 70! Hahaha!!

Bamamav,

Ron was shocked it hadn’t caught fire or shorted something or everything. Looking back this was probably one of the best things we upgraded. A huge transformation under the hood! Heat shrink makes things look so much cleaner than electrical tape and the wire loom we bought is some tough stuff.

Looking good! A great advantage for you to be able to have access to the back side of the dash like that, most of us are laying on our backs, peering up into the dark to work under the dash [cl[cl

Thanks zz!

My grandpa was a mechanic/machinist, therefore the easy access to the dash. A lot of thought went into the original design from his view point.
Originally, there was a removable panel to access the clutch/brake/accelerator pedals in case of needing service. As shown in the pictures, we had nothing but a bunch of wires running everywhere. When the hood goes up it exposes everything.

Busy week but not much show and tell. All of the gauges, engine and efi pretty much done just waiting on parts to arrive. We expect to be under power next week.
Ron indicated there’s a good possibility the Goldcar will be gold again real soon! Maybe Monday!??
We discovered an issue with the fuel tank outlet. The pickup tube is too small to feed the new fuel system. Another unexpected delay, hopefully the fix won’t take long. I have to build a mounting bracket for the fuel pump and filters next week. Should be fairly straight forward.

I’ll know more Monday on what direction we are headed to get to the finish line!

Working on the fuel tank modifications to work with the new EFI System. Ron has the new fuel connections ready to weld into the fuel tank and I’ve got the new mounting bracket built. We’ll get things welded today. Now searching for mounting clamps for the filters maybe replace the clamps that came with the fuel pump.

Ron has the body ready to paint after adding the body caulk in the seams of some panels. Fuel fittings should arrive today so planning to get the fuel system completed by Wednesday, paint Thursday or Friday. Wrapping the wire bundle for lights, fuel pump and stereo amp ready to clamp to frame rails and getting prepped to connect lights once the bumpers go back on.

Fuel lines ran and ready to connect. Fittings arrived today so ready to finish the fuel tank, connect the wiring and finish hose connections.

Stumbled into a perfect solution to mount our fuel filters. Of course first question one of them had at the parts store was what is the make, model and year? 😝 Once we got everyone past that, now they are starting to think. One of the guys said how would one of these new stainless exhaust clamps work? Perfect solution and they had some in stock. No Problems just solutions! Installed some nutserts and screwed the clamp bolts to our mounting bracket and still had room for the nut to tighten clamp. Perfect fit, look, conveniently located and easily accessible.

Things are really starting to come together. Cooling system pressure tested and appears to be holding steady. Fuel system not far behind and electrical hot test soon thereafter. We expect to be running again next week.

However, the BIG NEWS is tomorrow is PAINT DAY! Shop all cleaned up and ready to paint. One would be hard pressed to find a blemish anywhere. Ron has nit picked it until there is nothing left. Good bye gray primer! She’ll be gold again tomorrow for a brief moment.

The long awaited day finally arrived! Paint Day and all of Ron’s nit picking came out looking WOW, WOW, WOW…and it’s not buffed out yet. Without further delay, here’s some pics. Now just imagine what this looks like in person.

Thank you Ron for teaching me patience and attention to detail! They both showed up today!
