The first day at Back to the 50's started out wet. Dried off for 4-5 hours and started up again. Met a lot of friends and visited. Medical reports all around. Comes with age. Took a few pics of the weird. the unique, the

rusty.

Interesting rides. Sedan reminds me of model kits when I was a kid. Lil Coffin comes to mind. The original car was built in 1954. Here we are 70 years later, and similar cars are still at car shows.

BH, the '27 Hudson was very well built. Th light areas are wood grained and nice. The big block had Brodix heads and electronic stack injection. First class all the way.
I drove out and back on 15 year old bias front tires. Darting, weaving and shaking all the way. This morning I put some new American 5 spokes with new radial tires on the front. It made a world of difference. They didn't help with the scary incident I had though.
I was about 4 blocks from the fairgrounds following a line of cars down a slight hill when my brake pedal went to the floor. I was gaining on the '56 Chevy in front of me. I would do anything to keep from hitting him. I tried scrubbing the tires against the curb but it didn't help enough. Tried shoving it into Park. No dice. So I jumped the curb and went down the sidewalk about half a block I was slowing but not enough and there was an intersection ahead. I chose to run into a tree with my right front tire. That stopped the roadster. A quick review indicated no damage.. Had fun at the show. About 2:00 it started raining. So I hit the highway. Rain, road spray, cars darting in and out, what a ride!

I was curious of this too. I have been in that situation twice. Luckily I was in a manual which helped me slow to a crawl and do the tire scrub both times. Jim

A light rain kept the cars away, mostly. This Chrysler 300J was there. 413 with a long crossram.
A new rat. Plymouth sedan front

with a truck back screwed on.

Winters quick change. The new owner has a bit of work to make it right.

Those long ram intakes are cool. I've always wondered what the mechanics in those days had to go through to work on cars that had them..... Or were they trouble free? I'd suspect VC gaskets were fun, lol

A couple new ones showed up tonight. First is Greg's (the host) '32 which is almost done. His attention to detail and skill level is second to none. Next we have a plastic fantastic that's worth a few bucks. Then a yellow kitty-car from England.

Last night there was a car show/cacklefest 5 miles from my home. A beautiful recreation of Tom Hoover's "Fishbowl" Top Fuel dragster was there. Fired it up on gas and switched to 90% nitro. Boy, the sound change and the smell of nitro in the air made this old boy feel young again. There were 4-5 other dragsters and funny cars that fired up too. About a hundred cars in the show. Great BBQ and a band under a big tent. All this is a rememberance for a fellow racer who passed away during Covid. Miss ya John. Here's a bad shot of the Hoover dragster and some of the spectator cars that I liked.

All GM show a couple miles from home today. Drove the Hupmobile and parked outside the show.. Here's a few of my favorites.

A million and a half people live within 75 miles of me so there's limitless car shows in the summer. And we only get six months a year to do it.

Even here in CT there are so many shows. Cars and Coffee events are every Sunday in multiple towns. Got to get in and out early lately with the heat though. Jim

The cruising season may be a little longer but the scene here lacks cohesiveness or passion. Transient unrooted populace here.

Nobody from someplace else moves to Minnesota on purpose. So we are a cohesive, if not miserable lot here.
The government does plunk lots of people from foreign lands here. They're not into hot rods.

I was drawn to the southwest even as a child but while trucking over the road i liked the feel of Minnesota.
