We ordered 4 artilliary wheels from Rally America on Dec 9th. They promised to have them out the door in 3 weeks. They needed one week to build them and the powder coater needed 2 weeks. By January we hadn't gotten them so Dan called and Gary told him they had moved and got backed up, said he was using a new powdercoater who only needed 1 week to do them and that he would ship by last Friday. Called today to see if they went, and they haven't even started on them yet! After prodding his Son Jimmy a little come to find out they aren't sure they can make them at all. They were going to "try" us to see if they could do it.

I've dealt with a lot of the other wheel companies and they all seem to have this problem of not telling you the truth, but every report we saw on Rally America was that they were different. When I told Jimmy that we were disappointed and surprised that we were being lied to for so long he had very little to say.

Now it's back to square one and the last 6 weeks are lost waiting for something that wasn't even being made. Why can't people just tell you the truth?

Wow,Those guys usually are the ones that normally are on the ball.I have never heard anything bad about them.Lots of guys on another forum use them all the time with real good results.I hope you can get your wheels straightned out.

While you are out on your search for them.I would be real leary about Stockton Wheel.I have never heard anything positive from that company.

Good luck with that.I am also lookin for a set.

Let us know how you make out.

You are right George about Stockton, lots of reports of not shipping for months on end and lying. Like you every report I had seen about Rally America was that they were terrific, so we decided to try them. The order was over $ 1200 so it is not like we were buying a small order from them.

I can usually smell trouble brewing, and something is going on there. Several others have posted on the HAMB that they were either unsucessful in many attempts to reach them via phone, or were waiting for chrome wheels to be shipped. Whenever you see a few smoke signals going up like that it usually means something is happening, and not of a positive type. PM's from Dan and I went unanswered also.

We're done with them and are going to call Wheel Smith tomorrow to see what they can do. This just sets us back another 2 months in getting Dans car up on wheels.

Sorry to hear that Don. I contacted Rally America a while back because I needed 16 inch 40 Ford style wheels with a 5 on 4.5 bolt pattern for my coupe. They told me that they couldn't help me. I ended up ordering the wheels from one of the known popular wheel companies and I was very happy with my service and results. I got the wheels quickly, powdercoated and all.

Sorry to hear about the wheel situation. Its very frustrating to have to deal with that. I don't understand why some vendors just can't be up front and tell you like it is. If they had just been honest up front it would not leave such a bad impression but blowing blue sky up your skirt is just annoying. Hope all works out well.

They just moved into a new shop.I think thats why they got behind on their orders. When you move a shop it can take some serious time getting it set up to start operation.Just getting all the contractors to keep there promisies to build, plumb and wire equipment can be a nightmare.I have set one up before and it wasent no overnight task. That company has been real good to people..

I am sure they are doing what they can to get peoples orders out as they transition into their new place.

That is what I thought George, and what I would have expected to come out of their mouths. However, they had no solutions at all to offer us, and even when Dan said to Jimmy "put yourself in my shoes, what should I do?" he had no comment whatsoever. Very poor customer service IMO.

There is an old adage in business that if you please a customer he will tell another person, but if you PO a customer he will tell FIVE people. Word of mouth is so important and so many companies ignore that fact.

Gastrick, where did you get your wheels, we are still hunting?

Sorry to hear about your problem but in regards to Stockton Wheel, I had some old spoke wheels straightened by them and they had them turned around in one day and the charge was more than fair. I had a very good experience with them.

See, that is the thing about all these wheel companies, they run hot and cold. Stockton has been written up for being slow, yet you had a good experience with them.........so did I. The wheels on the back of my '27 came from them and they were fine to deal with. Why can't they just be consistent?

thats crazy don, i don't care whats going, anywhere I spend that kind of money, i demand perfection. I understand that things happen and I try to work with vendors when there is a fiasco (like when I ordered my vette brakes) but the bottom line is that $1200 is a lot of hard earned money and if they can't be up front and respectable-forget em. I demanded every penny back from VB&P after messing with them for over a month on my brakes. Suddenly they had approval to ship my brakes by 2 day air :p; the finish still wan't on par with what i expected for my money, but i was past the point of caring and needed my car on the road.

Wheels

Just got back from the Turlock swap meet, Jimmy had my wheels just as he promised he would:). it's the first time I have met him, he seems to be a mellow type of guy, even shy maybe. the kind of guy who might tell you what you want to hear and deal with the truth later. just a thought;). by the way it's the LARGEST swap meet:eek: I have ever been to. it would take 2 days to realy see it all. Doug

I agree, he seems sort of shy. He had very little to say when I was pressing him a little. Glad to see you got yours ok.

Dan solved his problem too. He bought some '40 Ford wheels off of ebay and is going to have Moser make him up some 31 spine axles with a 5 on 5.5 bolt pattern so he can use these front and rear. Not the artilliary wheels he wanted, but..................
