Time to stop dreaming of car projects and get back to the matter at hand.

It's a shorts day here in balmy Northern Michigan so I got out to the shop and temp screwed the new frame work together with a couple of screws in each.
Tomorrow I will dig out the saw that the DR used to chop my leg off and trim the ends of the new frame work.....[ddd :D
Thanks for stopping by.

On a lighter note...

Had my eye injections yesterday so back out in the shop today.
Used a Japanese pull saw to trim off the ends of the new frames. Then I clamped the old chine back on to see how things sit.
Looks good at this point.
I'll do the PS tomorrow.

Starting to look like a boat bottom again.......

Almost....[ddd
Trimmed up the Port side frames ends and once again clamped the old chine back on for fitment.
Looking ahead to scarfing a new pice of wood on the back end of the keel.
Thanks for looking in.....

Hey Torchie, will there be any original boat left? I'll appreciate restored wood boats more now that I've seen the work that goes into them.

LOL. At this point there are 3 original bottom frames left bob. Most of the keel will be original as well and the topside frames are still the original ones although I am still on the fence about one of them.[S Doing a full blown restoration of one of these is labor intensive for sure.

Man that's a project for sure.... Nice....[cl

Thanks Sarge. You got that Ford out of mothballs yet????

Still at it. Sort of.....

Went and picked up my birthday present to myself today.
In spite of it being for "Quality woodworking" they sold it to me anyways...[ddd
It's a flat bottom spokeshave. I will use it to fine tune the fairing of the new bottom frames.

Seemsa like forever since I have don anything on the boat.

Here you go Mac.....
Frigid but sunny here today so I made a little road trip over to my old boating buddies to take a better look at the Ford Y-block Interceptor that will be donating it's parts to the boat.
All the marine components from this 292 will be refurbished and transplanted onto a rebuilt but never run 292 short block that my Bro-in-law has from his first wooden boat that burned up in a garage fire.
Engine is complete and has a Velvet drive tranny as well as the much loved/hated side draft Carter carbs.
I won't be picking it up for a while due to lack of space on my end as well as the 3 boats , 15 or so other engines, a tractor and assorted stuff that entombs it.[ddd :D

First a crap-ton of wood work. Then engine work and assembly. Torchie, you could have built a full-on custom truck with the effort you are putting into this project.

I know, keeps you out of the bars and off the streets.

True words bob.:)
The thing about this one is my bro-in-law is writing the checks.:D
Given my current lack of finances just leaving my house is a bit of a debate....

Thanks Torchie, for the Y-block scenery. You'll be turning the heads of the 'brand-X' guys if you're not careful, flashing pictures like that around.

If it were my boat Mac I would name it Y-Knot. [ddd :D
I will be repalcing the lower transom bow once the weather warms enough for me to laminate it so I milled some test planks today to get an idea of thickness.
2 are a light 1/4" and the short one is 5/16"
I want to use as thick a plank as possible to get good screw hold but thin enough to get a good curve.
Once laminated this piece will have to be shaped as well.

Another spring day here in Northern Michigan!

We have gotten about 14" of fresh snow since last evening so I threw on my arctic wear and headed out to the shop.[ddd
Finished drilling bolts holes. Laid out the keel area that will be repaired and patterned a new frame backer as this one is unacceptable.
More 67 year old gunk to clean
2 Drs Appointments tomorrow an hours drive away. I hope the weather clears.
Thanks for visiting.....

Man, nothing stopping you...cold, snow sleet or hail...

You were not a postman in your past life, were you? LOL.. No torchie, the old ford is still sleeping right next to the pontiac... to darn cold and wet to haul it out... Sure hope spring is around the corner....

Screws. Nuts. Bolts and washers for JUST the bottom frame work arrived today.
$600 doesn't buy much anymore...
-4 degrees here this morning. Average temp should be around 51 Degrees by this time. Progress has been slow.

The dog in your last set of pics reminded me of this...

attachment.php

.

LOL And we got another 6 inches last night/this morning Dr.

Like most projects there is a lot of taking off and putting back, going on.
I started to take apart the new frames to clean up some things and get them ready to seal and paint.
I noticed that on the # 7 Frame the shape of the frame was different from Port to Starboard side.
I thought at first that this was a "Torchie" mistake but when I book matched the 2 original Halves (That I used as a pattern) I found this.
This was acceptable in 1950 at the factory or they just plain missed it.
Some of the frames had shims on them but I left them in place when making the patterns*like the one I show in the pics. So I will shim this one as well.
When finished this bottom will be "Better then new".....
