Can anyone give me some advice on welding to the factory cast steel piece that connects from the trailing arms to the axel? Is that piece cast steel or forged steel? and can it be welded to like they did from the factory? I cut the old trailing arms of and left about an inch of the old arm...

I am helping my friend build his first rat. We started with a 40 something binder. I chopped it 6 inches, Z,d the frame 7 inches. He is going to use a 302 Ford with auto, the rear is out of a Subaru. He is some pics of work done so far.

I did a 1957 ford, I put the floo in 3 pieces (front--center--rear) I cut the center out first and raised the floor rails to height, welded the center with the sides and then removed the rear and the the front.
