I've seen a few that looked like that in the lifter galley when torn down....usually a motor using Quaker State oil...there aren't many fans of that brand around here! Granted if it wasn't changed regularly but even well kept motors look crappy inside compared to ones using other lubricants...sorry if there are any Quaker State fans!

Quaker sludge!!!!!

Gotta love that quaker-sludge!!!! [cl ... I'm not sure what oil they were running, but doesn't look like they changed it every 3 months or 3000 miles [cl

You drove it before you welded the two together?[S:eek:

No... that'd be dangerous.... I haven't built the inner rocker fillers, but believe you me that body wasn't going anywhere. I'll post more once I get it all cleaned up. the body was fastened to the other and welds throughout, just nothing pretty.

Cool video and a super fast build! I call engines that look like that Pennzoil motors lol. Keep it comin!

That's some funky looking crud.
great video, now that's a quick build to get to drive it already.
Keep hammering on it.

Thanks Guy!!!!

It's nice to hear so much positive feedback... This is a low buck project that is actually going rather well [cl...

I'm going to tinker around on the motor this weekend in hopes to get it running better...only so I can beat it to death of course.... the poor 305 hahahahhaa....

I have a couple more power plants on deck so we will see what happens....:D

I find driving projects more interesting. Get them working then keep improving the parts that bug 'ya. Much more iterative & interactive, especially from back here in the peanut gallery.

Oh, OK. I saw your other thread on removing seam sealer and I thought you hadn't welded it together yet. I was wondering how the heck the body stayed in place! :D

The Popping Culprit!

I found that the exhaust lifter on Cylinder number to failed....

Forcing exhaust gases through the carb....

so.. I picked up 2 lifters... I know I know.... you're supposed to replace all of them... but I'm afraid that the lobe may be done on the cam... so.... I'd have to replace all and it's cheaper to do a set... so we will find out what happens later this week.

On a god note the lifter valley looked great after the motor flush... :D

Bumper time.. again....

So.... after kinda getting a tad over the whole engine thing I decided to change gears and pull out the 1954 Buick bumper that I scored over the 4th of July weekend... I determinded that is was a little wide before, so it was time to make it fit a bit better.

The idea was to remove some from the center approximately 4" so I could tighten up the sides so it would fit the front of the 50 which I was surprised was much narrower...

Anyway one of my buddies (Thanks Jessie) suggested cutting in behind the bullets... that way my ugly welds wouldn't show...lol, yup he's seen my welding....

So I remove the bullets did some measuring and chop chop chop... I had a pile of parts on the ground...

Bumper time.. again.... Part 2

Now comes the... No.. you didn't part....

I forgot the extention cord to my mig at my house... so I tossed all the parts in the back of the old Chevy...

Went home, it was dark by then, so I woke up the next morning and welded it all back up [;)... for a brief moment I was concerned about it fitting the car.. but I pushed forward....

I bolted the bullets back on and it didn't look half bad... off the car lol....

So later Sunday afternoon it was the moment of truth... I must say I was pretty impressed:cool:..

I'll have to make some brackets to mount it, but that shouldn't be too painful...
