Don, Elvis, Mav and Ty...thanks for the comments!

I got the fuel cell tacked together. I put two baffles in to keep the sloshing limited. Can't really see in the pictures but there is a AN-6 fitting on the bottom to serve as gavaity feed to the fuel pump and filter. The filler cap and sending unit will be on the driver's side. The fitting on top is a AN-4 that will serve as the regulator return line. I'll finish welding it next week, seal and pressure test it.

It will hold 20.25 gallons. I'm going to drive this thing across country in the spring so I wanted to make sure I had a large tank for that. I might build a smaller one (10 -15) after that trip.

Looking forward to seeing your frame painted and the final assembly.

Very nice work on the tank.

Thanks Bob! :D

Did some Xmas shopping this weekend so i didn't get anything done.

I feel your pain Ty...but it's Christmas so its ok! :D

You're making great progress Troy. Maybe on your cross country trip you can stop by my place and help me get somethin' done on mine!:D

Thanks Mike! You know I was going to put up a thread about that very thing once I figure out my route. Maybe stop and meet some of you guys as I go...that would very cool!:D

My Xmas present to myself was HEADERS!
Had to bolt them on and take some pictures. I was going to get one of those weld up lakester kits, but two things kept me from doing so. One I would have to build a jig to get them just right and the detailed welding was just going to take too long. Two I know from experience that 283's like headers with longer tubes coming off the head and I found these headers that fit the bill exactly as far as measurements, looks and performance. I'm really happy with the way they look. I will be welding flanges on the ends for some turn outs and also a tube on the bottom to connect to an exhaust system. I also finished welding up my fuel cell today...I'll be sealing and mounting it on Monday or Tuesday and will post some pictures and final cost on that little project.

You guys and gals have yourselves a very Merry Christmas! :D

Headers look great Troy. The look like they fit really good.

Merry Christmas to you and your family as well.

Very nice dude....Very nice! RR

CORPO, Ty and Rodney,
Thanks for the props! I'm really liking the headers. I ordered up some flanges to weld on. They are going to work out very well.

Unfortunately I suffered a big set back with the fuel cell. I finished welding it up and got the sealer in it...even pressure tested it. It's all good except that it doesn't fit. :( I mis-measured the height of the tank. It turns out that the bottom of the tank will end up hitting the upper control arms when the air bags are less than fully compressed by 2 inches. I tried to raise it a little but than it's too high and will interfere with the tonneau cover I plan to build. It could be a lot worst. I could have spent $450 on it. Since I built it myself it only cost $175 and I'll be able to reuse the sending unit and filler neck. I ordered some new sheet metal today and another sealer kit...an extra $100...so the grande total will be $275. Here are some pictures of the current fuel cell that is too height. I'll post more pictures of the new tank when I finish it. It's a bit disappointing.

I also got the rest of the pieces for my fuel system...but it will have to wait until I get the new fuel cell built.

I got the new tank welded together. Still waiting on my second round of gas tank sealer. Speaking of, I thought I'd give a little review of the brand that I'm using. It's made by Caswell and it's a two part epoxy. This stuff seals pin holes and cracks. The working time before it starts to set is about 30 - 45 minutes depending on the temp that you're working with it. It's very easy to mix and apply. On the tank that is the wrong size it really worked well. I took the one picture of the inside of the tank after the epoxy has completely settled. As you can see it has a shinny finish. This stuff really seems to works well and I highly recommend it to anyone that needs a gas tank sealer. I'll take more pictures of the new tank once I get it sealed and painted.

Round Two...Ding, Ding!

Ok...second tank is done. Test fitted and all is good. The sealer worked just as well the second time a round. I know the pictures are a bit repetitious, but I promise to have more progress pictures up soon.

I'll be breaking things down this coming week to get the frame painted. Then work on the final assembly. Lots of finish welding to do on the body, plus I'll need to fit the doors as well.

Looks great Troy. I cheated on mine and just ordered a RCI 15 gallon fuel street rod cell. It's 30L x 9W x12H. How big is your tank?

I have "fuel tank envy", mine is only 11 gallons.

Tanks look good, Troy. You have the right attitude, when something goes wrong you just need to say "Oh well" and make a new part or fix the problem. Happens to all of us.

Does that gas tank sealer work with the new gasolines ok? I know some had issues but it sounds like yours is going to be fine.

Don
