So I thought I'd finally start a build thread. This build is a product of extra parts and a bet. The bet was to build a pre 55 pickup for under $2k. Some of the parts came with another 46 Studebaker I purchased ( still to build )After taking about 2 years to gather parts that I didn't have ( cab, bed, chassis ) I started putting it together. Chassis is 96 S10 front half 97 S10 back half. Motor/trans is a 65 Buick 300/st300 2spd. Looking for a BOP turbo 400. Picked up the cab for $50, the bed for $75 and the chassis from two trucks for $125.

What would you do?

So today got under the truck to look at how I could fab up a crossmember for mounting the cab using the Stude factory mounts. Well one of the bolt holes is stripped. So been thinking - should I drill it out and weld in a new bolt or fab up new mounts similar to a chevy cab that would be more on the sides and not needing a crossmember.

Your thoughts?

I would keep the cross member if there is room for it as it will add strength. cut the old nut out with a hole saw and weld in a new one. If you are lowering the cab by channeling it then you're going to be custom building floor and mounts anyway.

Not gonna channel it. I think the nut replacement is the way to go.
