Pontiac Trans Am 1977...need help!

This is it:

My friends car, stock 400 pontiac inside(180hp).
Need help how to get some more power out of it, exhaust, carb, manifold etc. Now its embarrasing to drive in it, sounds like a muffled lawn mower
I pressume it has some restrictions, it is late 70s car

Anyone have experience with these ones? Any advice, hint, link would be appreciated.

I would guess a new cam, heads, headers & Flowmaster 40's would probably be in order. I think in those years they had horrible squeeze ratios... something like 7.5:1 or 8.0:1. 180hp from 400ci is a crime against humanity!!!
