I used the corner pieces from the appliance sheet metal I was using. The corner curves were just right for the top of my door frames and a good place to weld the roof pieces I had to install. I spent 3 or 4 hours doing this and the two weird angled pieces on the sides of the roof. Plus I welded the door skin to the frame of the door as I couldn’t see any thing wrong or any changes needed. I considered curving the sheet metal but it complicates the edges and harder to finish off. So I went with the Armoured car look, flat. All welds were done inside the door frame which is good. The right side is done roof and door now I jump over to the left side and do this all over again. I have some photos..

Real cold today it never got beyond 24 degrees. So I only worked a few hours in the shop. My furnace had a had time keeping up with the heat loss because of my open ceiling. I will remedy that in the spring.. I sort of started to use up my left over pieces of 18 gauge sheet steel. I cut and fit and welded the right side of the cowl to see how good I could get the door lines bordering the cowl ( this would be the fender on a production car), I saved enough to also do the roof and the cowl on the left side. But I quit after this job to cold for me. I have some photos and I gained more headway on the Rod.

Yes, really cold up here this morning also neighbor! About 1 or 2 degrees at 6:30. We've been having some nice weather. I won't be out in my shop until black flies come out. I work in an old greenhouse. Doesn't heat well at all. perley

Put some 1 inch Styrofoam panels over the glass use the blue stick em for Styrofoam its water proof also( the Styrofoam) it will insulate the glass well cause i used it on 2 large windows in my shop and boarded over the windows and foam boards 2X4 sheets

Lazy day today I only added a side cowl panel. A curved appliance corner to the top edge of the door frame. and added one piece of sheet steel to the roof. I have one more piece to do on the roof then i will be done with major sheet metal work. The next will be when i get up front and that wont be until warmer weather. In the meantime I will start to gut the Merkur and try to get the dash and all the wiring of the car in one piece and transplant it to my Rod. The dash will need some major surgery to fit it's 10 or 11 inches to long. I have some photos..

Even God had to rest!!!!

Man, you've been non stop on this thing....sit down, rest a spell.....it is allowed....LOL...:D

Yes Ill be slowing down now as I must take the Merkur apart piece by piece and salvage all that is usable for my Rod...

I put in some more time today I finished the pie cuts. I filled the slots, and welded them to the fenders. While I was doing this I noticed that the right fender had 1.4 inches less clearance for the tire than the left side. So I had to do some surgery on it I cut the forward lip off the fender and raised it 1.4 inches or so higher. I then re-welded it back. It now is basically the same as the left side fender. I will run into things like this through this whole Hot Rod build. Changes come as fast as the weather around here.. I'm going to take a few days off before I start to gut the Merkur. In the meanwhile I plan of working to lower my ceiling that is open and ten feet high, I lose a lot of heat. This will pay off next year during the heating cycle. Plus more light for me. I have a few photos.. of what transpired today.

No Rod work today, I worked on the ceiling problem fabricated a carrier beam for down the center of the ceiling to carry 2x4 rafters 9 foot long on each side of center. Snow storm coming tonight.

Very cool building from things you find. A real 'green' project. I just wonder about the title. Will it have to meet all the new car smog and safety?

Dont know if i have trouble ill have it crushed, I cant stand Goof balls who run most states
