Why do most guys make the front cross member for their suicide axle perch out of round tube?

Is it aesthetics, or is it something to do with strength of round tubing verses square?[S

O.K., I see now...wrong area. I see "wrong forum" posted quite a lot on one of the other forums (you know which one I mean) and thought maybe this was an inside joke that I missed. :) And yeah, because they're ugly.

out of curiousity....

has anyone tried using the square tube and setting it like a diamond....so that it wasn't using the flat face but the edge forward? And if so, does it still look bad? Just a question.....[S

I used square tubing for the front crossmember of my dragster. It is hidden under an aluminum nose piece.

I personally see nothing wrong with square or rectangular tube. After all, we use that in the frame and such!
And I don't get this "wrong forum" bit, ain't it all about hot rods? Lighten up!

I think that since the early Fad T Buckets all used a 3" round front crossmember that became sort of a "standard". Nothing wrong with using any shape crossmember as long as it safely supports the weight. The rectangular ones shown here are fine and in fact would attract my attention at a show because I would want to see how the builder made his home made brackets.

For the confused (and I was one of them for a while) "Wrong Forum" refers to the thread being placed in the wrong "Cagegory". For instance, this one is under "Talk" and probably should be in the "Chassis & Suspension" section. No big deal as far as I'm concerned.

I think he meant it should have been posted in the "frame/suspension/brake" Forum of this site. Not this site in general!

I do prefer round because it does look better to me. But there's nothing wrong with using square or rectangle if that's what you got.
