We start getting rust about 15 minutes after baring the metal with our humidity! I know your issue well!

I knew I was pushing my luck. Usually it's hot and dry around here.

welcome back!

looks like it needs closer to a foot moved back! [cl[cl[cl

Thanks I ended up moving it 13" back total

So sorry for your and your Mrs. loss. Life gets tough sometimes, and we have to enjoy it while we have it.

Thanks Don. life is short and we only live one day at a time that's for sure.

Progress..........

After holding class for my grandson on how to replace the head on your Dodge/Cummins diesel when you can't afford to pay some one to do it, we got back to the Willys.

Got the engine/transmission in it's final resting place and got the mounts tacked in place.
Then we pulled the cab off and started working on the rusting bare metal issue. My bride started whining about the paint gun being too big for her hands so she was put on wipe down and primer mixing duty. We got the cab primed on the outside and will get the inside and the bed primed in the next couple of days.

Still have some skimming to do with a thin coat of body filler.
She didn't like it when I told her that alot of the primer would be sanded off to get the metal flatter before paint.
She had no idea what was involved in the body work.

I like seeing young people taking interest in how and what it takes to fix something.
The ole Willys is gonna be very cool

Thanks all.
Caleb is a hard working determined kid that I try to help when ever I can.
He bought this truck from a guy that was asking $7500 for it and swore the block was cracked and was putting water in the oil. So I told Caleb to offer him $2500 and he took it. We took the valve cover off of it and pressurized the the cooling system without a thermostat in it and the very back two freeze plugs were leaking on top of the head!

We put all new freeze plugs in the head and had it pressure checked, resurfaced and did a valve job on it. Slapped it back on and he has a 3/4 ton four wheel drive Dodge Cummins truck with 180,000 miles on it for $2800 bucks.

Progress for today.........

We got the bed and cab interior sanded and primed. We will put bed liner on the bed floor. What is the best roll on liner that y'all have used and would recommend?

only one I've used is the duplicolor one, it went on good I can't say anything about the durability

You two are moving right along. I've used bed liner on new factor bed and it worked well. I tried it on a truck that I had just painted. It peeled the paint so fast it was scary. Must have had a lot of solvent in it. Try it on a test panel first.

Progress.......

We got the transmission cleaned up, resealed and painted. Hopefully the engine and transmission is back in to stay.

My bride was getting antsy while I was working on the transmission so I got her set up to paint the bed. I don't claim to be a body type guy and it shows.

It's certainly not going to be a show quality truck just a driver. She did a pretty good job considering.

Thanks guys.

Doc.... It's "Bermuda Blue" she says. I wanted it to be flat tan or grey but she quickly informed me it was her pickup so there it is gloss Bermuda Blue. It's a color that was originally used on the '50-'51 Willys
