So yesterday we had our local car show and poker run and the woman decided that both cars needed to be up there. So I trailered the 31 and unloaded it and drove copper up there. Now mind you, this is more so a high dollar, pay someone else to do the work, car show. So as far as rat rods go, there aren't many and there are no true classes. Anyhow, the day progressed and they always do a dinner, dance, and awards between 9 and 10pm(they get the canadians to stay by having an open bar). So I'm not really paying any attention, just standing off to the side conversing with some folks from across the border, and apperently they were doing awards at that moment. So I'm talking and I hear them say my name and 1931 chevy. Completely caught off guard just because I know most people there and what cars they really like. So yeah, out of 265 cars, my pile of metal got top 5!!! I had a guy even say earlier in the day "wow, this thing is built really well and it looks really safe." I really wanted to respond with "well I'm not goin to drive something that isn't and put my life, my family's life, and anyone else on the road in danger." So remember, they may be rat rods, but that doesn't mean they're not built well, just built off of leftovers and bodies that most people would have hauled in for scrap.

Thanks guys. If it weren't for the knowledge that y'all have shared I wouldn't be where I am now.

Stole this picture from the local newspaper's facebook page.

I don't think I ever posted a picture of the award from the show so here it is. Better late than never right?

Almost a year since my last update... I havent worked on it lately but I finally got the drive shaft in and rolled it out of the garage under it’s own power. Unfortunately, as cool as it looks, the steering is a no go. Turns one way just fine but binds up the other. So I decided to order a reversed corvair box and I am goin to do away with the chains. The box will mount under the cowl and I’ll do a cowl steering with it. The box and a few other parts have already come in but I ordered the wrong size coupler so when that gets here I’ll pull it back into the shop and get to working on her. I’ve got an idea of how it should all be in my head but I’ll have to see how it works when it’s all implemented.

WOW Endi..... just went back and looked through all the pictures...
wow, just wow.... lots of good idea's and lots of wire ;) just how many

Been working on the steering the last few days and got her done. Forgot to order the rod end bungs so I took the old drag link, cut it halfway between the straight section and welded pipe in between to get my length correct. It’ll work for now until I can order the rest of what I need. Took her for her first real test drive just around the block and she doesn’t do too bad. I do however think one of my front wheels is bent as it gets a bit shaky in second gear and I can see a slight wobble on the passenger front wheel. Might take a video of it when we go to the show tomorrow.
