you know your "in it deep" when you actually have........An Upholstery guy :D

Jeez, now ya got me sounding like a high roller..:( I found an old dude that does good upholstery for a reasonable price and have stuck with him for the last 8 or 9 cars - I'm just hoping he doesn't retire anytime soon!
I started glueing/riveting the tack strips around the ceiling that the headliner will tack to. I had to make new headliner bows - I'd already made them from 3/16" SS rod but they were too weak and would have flopped down under the weight of the headliner I think , so I had to do it over with 1/4" SS rod.

Putting some things together... Adapted a Lokar cable the rechromed original E-brake handle, mounted the heater, wiper motor, and mounted the original gas pedal with a Lokar cable, made a bracket to mount it to the carb. Also ran the 1/4" air lines up to the center of the tranny hump where they will plug into the gauges in the console.
Also picked up some stuff from the platers, my bumpers are all shiny now

Two questions
1. Is that a heat and A/C unit ?
2. Who done your chrome work ?
Been watching you do your magic from the git-go.
I sure do like the way the Caddy is turning out !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1. Nope, just a heater, a Vintage Air heat/defrost unit.
2. Superior Electroplating in Cloverdale B.C. Canada
Thanks for your support! :)

Started putting the dash together today, the 2 panels and the upper piece I painted Rustoleum Rustic Brown. Originally they were done in faux woodgrain but I'm not going to attempt that! The garnish mouldings and console will get the same color. The Classic Instruments American Nickel gauges are in the same locations as the original ones, I just had to make a new panel with slightly smaller holes.

Picked up the fixed glass pieces and after some instruction from the glass shop I started installation.
1. Clean the glass and window opening with alcohol
2. Hold the glass in the opening and mark the edge of the opening on the glass
3. Mask the painted opening to keep adhesive off it
4. Apply black primer (red tube) to the glass and the opening
5. Apply 1/4" bead of urethane adhesive to the opening
6. Hold the glass in place and install the garnish moulding to hold it in place
7. After it cures, trim off excess and remove tape

After putting in the rear window, it occurred to me to run a bead around the outside and smooth it with a finger so there are no voids between the glass and the opening - oh, and wear gloves, it is really sticky stuff.

Tomorrow, I'll use a razor knife to clean up the glass.

After all that fun, I got started on one of my top fav jobs, wiring (not!) - doing the easy stuff on the back side of the dash before installing it.

After pre-wiring it as much as possible, I put the dash in and started making connections. As usual, it looks like a bomb went off inside the car, what with all the various stuff required to do the wiring !!
I actually don't mind doing it as much as I used to, it just takes time, some planning and a certain amount of patience, concentration and brain activity. I'm using an American Autowire kit, the second time I've used one. They are very complete, good quality and include a lot of components you don't get in the cheapie kits.

Got the wiring mostly done, under dash is all together except for speaker wires and tidying up. Engine starts (yahoo!), compressor is working etc. Still need to deal with the console wiring (thats the big knot in the middle of the floor).

I only got on the cordless tool bandwagon recently, now I find I'm using them all the time !! Every Dewalt tool I've had has gone in the garbage can due to catastrophic breakage. Makitas on the other hand have given me great service life and if I've broken one, it was my fault, not the tool's fault....

We used to use your glass trick on the outside edge of GM coupes (le mans, malibus, regals etc) we would take off the outside trim and run a bead of sealer along the glass and edge of the metal. I would use a shirt stiff putty knife and do a 45* angle. Made it look Custom with not to much work. Caddy is looking sweet ZZ![P

my two makitas are the two best tools I have bought in the last couple years, I love the impact, I have a 3/8 drive socket bit for it, I use it all the time...

Also, ZZ, you are moving along so dang fast!!!!! we need to add more hours to the day I think... maybe then I could get something done.

Fast ?? Jeez, I thought I was just creepin' at a snails pace !! For some reason, I thought it would have been on the road in July [S.... Then I thought this weekend :(.... Now my target is to get it to the upholstery shop the week after next . If I reach that, I'll be on track to get it to a show in mid-Sept, likely with the front end and fenders still in primer.
Got my fingers and toes crossed....
I second the motion to add more hours to the day !![cl
