Still choppin'

Thanks for the comps fellers. I've built a bunch of cars over the years but this is my first chop job. Having fun so far (it's normal to wake up at nite from dreaming about building cars, right ?).
Got the roof tacked together today after some persuasion -measure, measure, measure before tacking in place, still some adjusting was needed. Then I pieced together the rear quarter window frames from sections of the old rear doors.

That certainly doesn’t look like a first time chop job! [dr[cl

You’re building one awesome car, but then again, you always do. :D

Busy with everything but the Caddy for the last week or so, but got some time in on it the last couple days. Shortened the rocker panels and welded them in, bent a piece of 1x1 box tube to the shape of the rockers and welded it inside the door bottoms to conform to the rocker shape and to start with reframing them in the abscence of wood.
Also got one door top pieced together and rolled it out for some daylight pics.

You are still planning to keep the fenders/hood right? (Didn't feel like sifting through the whole thread ) Is thatthe same length on the door as in your 'photochop'? Looks longer, but it's hard to tell without the rest of the car attached.

Oh yeah, all the sheet metal is going back on. :D The door is about the same as the photochop, though that was just a rough approximate 'chop'. No doubt when all the tin is reattatched it wiil make the main body look smaller. I considered not lengthening the front doors and did a photochop of that too but thought it made the body look too short (see pics). Also the taper of the body would have made the doors angle out more to meet the rear quarters so it would have been obvious what was done. The section I took out was pretty much straight so I didn't run into that problem.

Nice work! you get more done in 3 weeks than I do all year on my own projects![S I guess I will have to quit all 3 of my jobs so I can keep up![cl

Got a little more done, welded up and ground down the roof chop joints, I may have to re-cut the pass. side top of the roof, got a slight hump at the weld, tho I may be able to heat shrink and hammer it out.
I was going to do suicide doors but after some thought, I figure it will make it really tough to get in the rear seat. So now I'm working on installing the tube structure to replace the wood, starting with the door frames and top of the rocker panels. Once the structural work is done, I'll hinge the doors and install bearclaw latches.
