some good scores! I 'm jealous around here if you don't know some one its like its made of gold for everything

started on the steering rack

last night I prepped the 1/2 inch plate, drilled the holes to connect it to the rack
and bent the plate to connect to the center link

and this morning I did some more measuring and whatnot
and layed some heat into it and put a few passes on it just to make sure its all good

made the frame mounts in the afternoon
and then had to wait for them to cool down
so I watched some tv and had ice cream
and then bolted the rack to the frame mounts

I took some measurements tonight and it seems like the column is a bit long, so the part that mounts to the firewall needs to come off and get moved up on the column housing.

Or see if an astro van column is shorter, the section that goes inside under the dash area

or re-use the stock 37 column

Why not find a a pre-60's straight tube column and wheel? It'll look better in that cab rather than a clunky late model column (my opinion). It's not that hard to connect it to the newer linkage.

BTW, I just noticed the pic of your bicycle on the first page - very cool.

I sectioned the s10 steering column 10.5 inches

And made some temp mounts to put the column in place

My dad gave me a 40 gallon fuel tank from a late 80's Chevy suburban
He said its new, he got it for his 4bt Chevy truck but the oil pump went out on the diesel before he got around to swapping the fuel tank into the truck

And he has no need for it anymore because he sold the truck

And the city is giving him a hard time for having to much junk in
The yard and he needs room in the garage and the tank is in the way

Free fuel tank is good
Just have to figure out how to get it from
San Diego to Tucson
Along with the bed for the 37

well, today was fun at the junkyard

I got a 1984 4 banger s10 pedal box set up for a manual trans
and the steering shaft for it
and the throttle pedal

and then a steering shaft from an astro van

Friday is a down day at work so I plan to spend all of Friday with the 37

my goal is to have the steering and pedal box mounted Friday

I had the machinist at work teach me how to sharpen drill bits on a belt sander
so I shouldn't have any problems mounting the cab to the frame now

started to mock up the front sheet metal

I need to get the fenders bolted to the grill shell and see whats what

going to need a lot of sheet metal work and body work

mounting the cab to the frame took longer then I wanted
and then I didn't get to spend anytime with the truck this pass long weekend

and I'm still not done with the rear spring mounts

I have to wait a week before I can get some metal for that

have a b-day party coming up, so metal has to wait a few days

I'm going to chop half a coil out of the rear springs
and then I have to get some pipe that's 5.5 inches
and then also get some 1.25 tube

going to use the 1.25 to connect the bridge bars to the 5.5 in pipe
and also use the 5.5 inch pipe to keep the coil springs inline
and I have the 3/16 plate I need for this

I need about 6 inches of the 5.5 pipe and 4ft of the 1.25 tube, witch will probably end up being DOM

I kind of got side tracked with the front sheet metal and the steering wheel and pedal box

but I need to remind myself that the goal is to get the chassis into a roller before my left side hip surgery

and my pre-op is on the 20th of sept in San Diego

I'm cutting it close to my goal, I wont feel right if I don't make my goal in time
and i'll end up trying to get back to work on this project before my body is ready

Just remember, the hip is more important than the project. Good luck with both.

Agree with bob w.
As tempting as it may be don't cut corners on your recuperation time. I have done that way to many times and am now paying the price for it.
Good luck on both as well.

the truck has rear suspension and I put the rear tires on

the 37 now sits on wheels under its own weight

I have to get more tube for the upper coil springs mounts

and I have to make brackets for the pan hard bar

and figure out how I'm going to go about doing the upper link bar

I'll post pictures tomorrow when I have more light
its to dark right now

I had my pre op in San Diego earlier this week and while I was in town I found some huge air bags on Craigslist, brand new never been mounted for super cheap, they are a bit on the big side but oh well
I'm not sure if I'm going to use them in the rear of the truck or not
But for now they will sit with the rest of the parts

i went to one of the sites that used to be an US Army base back in the day,
its now gone gone, no signs of the land being a old base anymore

but it was pretty cool to walk around and check out the land and whatnot

one of the sites that I think my truck was ones at

in a few weeks I'm going to go to one of the other sites that may have been were my truck was
in Campo, California, outside of San Diego
I want to go up to that area and see if anything from the old base is around
try and find some history for that army camp or fort or whatever they called it back In the day

I talked to one of my Aunts that is in her mid 60's
and she told me some stories about the truck

she also learned how to drive with this truck and used this truck for her driving test

4link half way done, not much has or will happen to the truck for a good amount of time now, I had my pre-op last week and I'm less then 5 days out now from getting the left side hip repair done

I forgot the fuel tank at my parents house last week, but I did gave some extra wheels, next week I'll have my wife bring the fuel tank back to Tucson for me, and have the next door neighbor put it into the garage for me

my Aunt said the truck belonged to the US Army down at Ream field, but when the Army pulled out of the base it took them a few years, and at the same time while the Army pulled out, the Navy took over more of the base

the truck was left behind because it was only a 3/4 ton and was a short bed

my grandpa worked on that base after he got back from WW2
ream field was decommissioned in 1951 and my grandpa got the truck in 1950 as a military surplus vehicle.
