what he said^^^ but i'd mix in copper and brass and maybe force it to go green a little bit. not sure how you could do that, maybe rub it with saltwater after you cut out the pieces of it or something. you might just edge it in that, just a thin little line all the way around or something.

What are you planning for a bumper? What did you decide for rear lights?

I was thinking of going with out any bumpers till I see if I want to really drive this thing much. Depends on how it feels on the road. I'm expecting this long of a chassis with soft springs to be a kinda 'floaty' rockin chair, which will probably be OK as I'm an old guy N like easy livin :).

The rear lights will be the cateye MC pieces hung snug under the gravel guard--I think I'll have enough room there--see pic.

I believe I'll go with the passenger side deck, and play with the artsy stuff as an overlay. That way if I spring for any fancy metal, I can get thinner, cheeper stuf. I like the fish scale armor in brass and copper idea--maybe even beat the copper up and make it look hand foarged. Maybe Checker plate scales--I like checkerplate.. I've been thinking of splitting soft copper tube and using it as metal edge in the cockpit and dash. That would go with the with the copper/brass tail accents.. Maybe use some brass/copper plate on the dash.. That sort of goes with the steampunk stuff -Victorian machinery was often brass. Maybe a victorian ornate metal work shifter and brass/wood steering wheel like ya see on some T Buckets to go with the look.. I avent made a grill yet--I could follow through with brass/copper there.

I've also been thinking about cloth covered airplane wing looking thing, but I'm still getting the 'batman' comments, and that would make it look even more that way, so prolly not. --or maybe--.

I had one guy suggest some jet engine looking pods on the tail with flamethrowers-- :)

Then theres still those metal horses bolted to everything...

What to do--what to do..

Thanks for the interest guys--its all blue sky..

I don't really have a preference between the two shield styles. The cateyes might look real good inset into the step down on the drivers side example. I wondered about the bumper because of how you have the end of the shields cut - seems it would be difficult to get a bumper to fit i them.

As for rear bumpers, 2 separate thin bumpers might work well. Maybe double bar bumpers.

I was looking at the front bumpers of a Cord, and they were the old spring types, and I have a whole buncha leaf springs off PUs in my junk--Thought I might mess with them a little, maybe do something like this..

I've made nerf bumpers from sway bars that worked well--was considering that approach too.

Thanks for the input Sam.

I finally got to see an Auburn Boat tail Speedster Replica in person. It is in a little 60 car museum about an hour North of me in Hardy AR. I liked the cars, but it was kinda like going to the Zoo. I wanted to open the doors and free em all.. They needed car nuts driving them around-I bet most were in there for years and had gone bad sittin. That ain't right...

The speedster replica was smaller than I expected--the interior was about the same size as my 26T roadster. My Bentley cockpit is a foot or 2 wider and longer, and I think my rat speedster body is longer (maybe the rear fenders make it look that way.) The stance was low, and a little drop nosed, which I don't really like, and that may have made it look smaller. The T next to it shows the scale in comparison-not too big. I would like to see a real one still, so the run up to the Auburn museum in Indiana is still in my mind. They have a big meet each spring I think. Hummm-wonder how they'd feel about my POS cruzing around with em--Talking about begging for a beating!!! Take a $3000 jalopy and Go hang out with million dollar cars--:)

I dropped by the little show in Cave City on the way back. 2 Rats outta 50 cars!! We're taking over--:).

105 in the shade, so I made one walking pass--talked to a ratter from Paragould with a rusty 48 Ford PU--well done--asked him what color he was gonna paint it and when he was gonna get it finished :p.. Somboddies gotta do it!

Cupcake was at the melon cruze Friday with the boy and grandkids- I worked in the heat all day Friday, and was sittin in front of the AC veggin out.-Said she spotted a RRR guy and 2 kids, runnin wild in an old primered Ford PU!! Hey HRP...[cl

PA, I came upon a real deal Auburn speedster parked on the street once. Heart almost stopped. The little canvas top looked outrageous in proportion but the whole car just seemed bigger than life. :)

Drove it out of the shop and parked it so I could see it as I mowed the yard. 85 degrees--great weather to mow and look at the Bently..

More of the boattail. The last pic is with my Mowing assistant/wife/hot rat rod model in her special 'pose for the NerNet' baglady/lawnmowng outfit.

(She doesn't read this stuff, so NO ONE tell her I posted this--I PROMISED I wouldn't, but I can't help myself)

its a great feeling to sit back and look at it from a distance.. i had that moment this summer too.. i walked around mine for like an hour.. looking at it from different angles...

Its looking great man!

lookin good! though I still say open up the rear wheel opening. Give it the sensation of speed sitting still. but overall it is a win! nice job!

Hey you want to part with that dozer?[dr
