That looks perfect to my crossed eyes with the box raised up.. Cutting four inches off the front of the box and moving the stake pockets is relatively easy. I did that on my '48 in a couple of hours.

"Relatively easy" is the key word POPS. Lately nothing has been easy:eek:
Finished welding up the grill that my young friend started on a couple of months ago but never finished.
Since chroming is out of my budget(at least for this week :rolleyes: ) I shot it with some rattle can satin black so it contrasts from the gray primer.
Waiting to get my paws on a spot weld cutter and then it's on to the box.

bed placement is key (in my opinion) to the overall look.. so take your time make sure its right where you want it...

I like the black on the grill.. who needs chrome?
 
That grill looks a lot like mine Torchie. I'm going to paint mine silver metallic with a clearcoat when I get around to painting my car. Chrome is not in my budget, either!

First off the rear wheel placement in the fender opening.
Pics 1-4. Went down in to the root cellar and pulled out my spare tire. Put it into the well to get an idea of placement. Looks like cutting off 4" of the box and moving it forward will do the trick.:D
Truck will be lowered about 3" as well.:cool:
Maybe I should run dually tires in back.[ddd [ddd :rolleyes:

Pics 5-8. Started to mess with the hood again. Made a relief cut on the DS that I never got around to. Also took it all apart.Pushed it back a little and screwed it back together. Now that's what I call hood to fender top gaps. Better than most stockers.:D :D
I have to turn my attention to my wifes daily tomorrow as I was informed that it is making "Some kind of noise and wobbles".:eek: :eek:
Plus the never ending Dr. appointments on Friday puts me at the weekend and hopefully chopping off the end of the box.

Revisited the rear tire placement today and after looking at lots of pics of originals I believe that I am going to shorten the box 3-1/2" Instead of 4"
Pics 1-2. First pics is at 4" and the second is at 3-1/2" I like the look of the tire slightly ahead in the fender. Mimics the stock look. As always comments and opinions are welcomed.:)
Spent the rest of the afternoon checking distances measurements from side to side before I drill the rest of the mounting holes for the front clip. I don't live or die by what the tape tells me as I rely on my eye as too what looks right but the tape don't lie.:eek: :cool:

The reason the factory set the tires forward is, when you load the bed the leaf spring de-arches and pushes the axle backwards as much as two inches.
I like the 3.5" placement better.
 
Looks right to me. you can always cut off another 1/2 inch, its a real pain to put it back on.
My mantra when restoring wooden boats was " Measure 3 times. Cut twice and get another board" kenny.:eek::rolleyes:

I like the 3.5" better as well OI. Interesting in regards to the axle movement. Never thought of that. [S
Don't know how much movement I would get under load with the transverse spring. Although I don't plan on hauling a load of cinder blocks with it. But one never knows....[ddd

Decided to go out to the shop and sweat off a few more lbs today

So taking from a lesson that I learned 9 years ago when my leg was chopped off I reconsidered my thoughts about cutting off the box and instead moved the fender forwards .:eek: :cool: :)

Pic 1. Went up into the rafters and pulled down the tailgate. Clamped it in place make sure everything is where it belongs.

Pics 2-4. Moved the rear fender ahead 3-1/2" The space in back of the fender is not to long. Also a shot of the area in front of the fender.
Looks good to me.:D

Pics. 5-7. Hard to get a side view in the shop but these pics can give you an idea. Hope to get the other side done tomorrow and then if it's not raining I will pull it out for a full profile shot.

That looks good [cl I only see four holes that need filling, or not [S

I hear you on the heat, here in SoCal my shop is at 104.4* and that's with a 7' by 8' door at each end open :eek: didn't get much done.
 
We were well into the 90's yesterday and today soltz. Which for us is HOT.[ddd
4-1/2 holes actually if I don't mind the other factory ones showing on the inside of the bed.
I have some thoughts about that but I'm not sharing them at this time.;) :D
