good stuff lol, sense I unintentionally fueled a fire, and recently pulled the rear axle out of a donor town car I took some rough measurements,
57 inchs outside to outside of brackets
70 inchs hub to hub (roughly still has tire and a donut on it) Google says their 65 inches
My 59s inner box above wheel wells was like 74 inches rough.
Then my buddy showed up and we finished up installing the car hoist :)
looks like going to tight, alot measuring and fab work. but as we know dropping them to the dirt takes effort. 😀 ill probably be back to shop tomorrow agian I theres anything else I can get measurements on so you don't have to relu on Google or crawl under a dead vic.
That’d be awesome. I’m tried of conflicting google info.

What wheels are you planning on running? I’ve been looking around Craigslist for wheels off a mustang or anything. I also realized a lot of imports have 5x114.3 ( the metric equivalent of 5x4.5) I just have to figure out how much offset we’ll need.

For the front end how much room do you have between the tire and fender?

sorry for the miscommunication, the vic front end is installed in a '72 F100, very different body, no air ride, and the front clip isn't on it at the moment. The rear axle from the doner town car (vic) isn't installed in the '72 (its in the may come in handy parts pile lol), we flipped the 9 in. that came in the truck.

A crown Vic setup is cool. I know for the body style before this truck, they are too wide in my opinion. You have to run stock style wheels for the offset to make them clear. We bought a fabricated narrowed crossmember that uses crown Vic outers for the 53 I did. It made it look way better in my opinion. They are a solid way to go either way.

Hey not a problem. I appreciate it

I’m going with the CV for the front I need to secure some funds. Work and babies are in the way of my truck for now. I plan on step notching the rear and bagging the entire truck to eat pavement. It’ll be fun. Just a long drawn out build

There is nothing wrong with taking your time with a build. It gives you more time to find info, Imagineer and scrounge parts cheap.
Totally I’ve got some more stuff lined up now with using the lining on my bed (let me explain it’s all 3/16 plate steel over the rotting remains of the old bed) to fab up my step notch.

I have been stuck though at my front end CV swap again… it’s a PS rack and pinyon setup. My truck is an inline 6 without PS. Is there ACME Brand pump i could use? And attach to my block or I’ve sent the mustang electric steering but at $700 that’s a little out of reach.

There’s some talk of a Volvo PS being used in racing and some other cars….
Might be the best option

Looks like wiring adapters exist.

Without gps knob adjusted pump control

With gps unit

There has to be a way that’s DIY and more or less bolt in. Even the conversion kits are pricey

What am I missing here

Edit I may have found the answer.
Volvo pump with new hoses to link to the CV swap.

Power steering didn't become popular in trucks until the late 60s, and those power steering pumps were not likely used on the 6 cylinder motors.

With that in mind, I see two issues, 1) Your crankshaft pulley probably doesn't have a groove in which you could mount another belt and 2) There is probably not existing holes to use to bolt a pump to the motor, if you can find a pump that would work.
That means, you would hopefully find a lower pulley with 2 grooves in it that will bolt to your motor without major issues. And then you would need to find a pump that is compatible with the CV steering rack and uses a V belt rather then a surpentine belt that I suspect the CV pump needs, and then fabricate brackets so you can hang that pump on your motor somehow.

Is it possible to buy a manual steering rack that will work with the CV suspension system?

That’s all good info. I grew up with Armstrong steering in 70s f250s but this truck I feel like treating myself.

I found info on Volvo electric pumps and swap in coyote swapped f100s. It may be my best option. Still need some more research but I hope I have a answer

I just did a quick search. Ford 300 straight sixes had power steering in E 250 and E350 vans as late as the 90s. Maybe you could scrounge parts from one of those.
Good to know thank you. I visited a junkyard today that was full of e250s and older fords so I’ve got a few plans now.

Have you seen this thread? With FWD style wheels, he kept the front wheels in the fenders. Any reason that you are dead set on keeping the six? Going later model v8 might be cheaper than sourcing rare ps brackets.
I haven’t looks like j got some reading to do thanks!

I like the simplicity and i had too end work done by a solid friend and have it running like a top. Just need a need battery tray and some more time.

Honestly the v8 of course crossed my mind but I’ve got a running driving truck. I don’t care to have a go pedal that smokes my rear tires or anything like that. Just a simple inline 6 idk I’m an outlier in that regard.

The way it way come to fruition though is a CV frame swap. I’m on the fence. I have a CV I got for two cases of coors and a Cali burrito so it’s in the table. I’ll most likely do a CV suspension swap and a rear axle swap + step notch and air bags.

I would look for parts off of a van like stated above if you really want to keep the inline 6. As for the crown Vic, you can use the original Vic wheels and make them fit, but they are tight. I am currently doing a 63 Lincoln Continental with a vic subframe. Started by someone else and butchered to death. I am running a narrowed subframe from team321 like I did in the bad investments 53 Ford. The look is way better.

As for a frame swap, it can be done. There is a kid a few hours from my who I stumbled upon on YouTube who has a frame swapped early 50s truck. It is low and a cruiser!

What ever you decide, do what you want to do and make it safe!!
