wow, thanks. i like the fourth pic best. by the way the motor wont have pulleys on it. i'll use an inline water pump and a driveshaft driven alternator. i'm going to try to keep the engine as clean as possible. besides i dont want to cover that cool aluminum front cover with a water pump and pulley.
yeah i definately like the tank down low and up front. i like the lights low too. it does have that mickey mouse look like you said if theyre up high. way cool.
its been awhile since ive been this enthusiastic about building a car or truck. alot of that comes from you guys here on RRR and i appreciate it. i'm sure hoping to be driving this car when the weather breaks in the spring. next i'm going to get the body mounted and the floor redone. once the body is where it belongs i can get on to steering and brakes. i picked out the steering column i'm going to use. its from an 80 cutlass. its a tilt column without a shifter on it. i'll be using a mopar truck master cylinder. i'm going to try to use the brake pedal that was in the 51 ford truck. but i'll hang it from a bar i'll put behind the dash to hold the pedals and steering column. any answers about using the s-10 manual steering box layed on its side? anyone ever done this?
its been awhile since i posted on the packard build, but ive been working on it pretty steady. this pic shows the cockpit as it is today. i redid the entire floor framing. the steering column is in. trans mounts is in. the shifter is in. seats are in. seats are functional too. they slide forward on thier tracks so my short buddy (ben) will be able to drive it too, lol. i still need to mount the rear seats. i'm going to use the jump seats from the back of an extended cab s-10 for the rear seats. brake pedal and master cylinder are in. its coming along for sure.
this pic shows the crossbar and column drop. i put a crossbar from the door hinge braces. its a very strong part of the body inside the cowl. i then put the column drop from it.
yes it seems to work great. but only a test drive will tell for sure. which means i gotta get this thing going. next on the list is finishing the rear shock mounts and the rear seat mounts and package tray bracing. i'll get a few pics as it progresses and post them. i cant wait to drive it, thats for sure.
