And since she is sporting a new set of shoes I thought I would cover that big hole in the cab where the steering goes through.
As soon as I can figure out how to get the pics to my computer I will post up how I made the part.
It basically went like this.
1. measure the width and length of area to be covered, add 1.5 inches to the length
2. determine heigth and figure out final width
3. cut 20 gauge sheet metal to outside dimension
4. scribe center line mark
5. scribe triangle from widest point to center line (don't forget to allow for flanges.
6. starting at the narrowest point of triangle use tear drop mallet and hollow stump and start banging away.
7. keep banging away until general shape is formed
8. trim off excess
9. Bang out flanges
10. Bend and beat until final shape is completed.
11. hammer and dolly (I did very little hammer and dolly work as I liked the hand formed look. If I wanted it perfect it would take very little)
12. layout rivet holes and then mount. (I am using stainless steel button head bolts instead of rivets as I want to keep it removable to servie the steering).
Like I said, I have pics of most of the steps and will get them up as soon as I can.
