OK, here's the scoop- i've heard, more than once, and am comfortably sure that grenada spindles and disc brakes will swap onto my 57 ford car/wagon.....but it looks like i also may need at least the lower control arms-are they the same as well, or not....what has been done before-and what works best? remember we're working low buck here....

anybody know?[S

my buddy told me about this thread and told you to call me . but i joined and thought id share my convert here . on my 55 fairlane i used spindles from a 73 torino . make sure there not from a big block car . wrong bolt pattern and regular bolt patern rotors will not fit the spindles. the steering arm is in the right place so they wont cause bump steer . the only thing i had to make work was the bottom ball joint hole was to big . i made a thin spacer and all is good . im going to put in the aerostar van front springs to bring it down a little more in the front . the granda spindles is the most popular convert , but cause bumsteer .

thanks for sharing the info.....
i had found a guy with grenada spindles for cheap-and had heard they would work, but i really don't want any other "hard to drive" issues`, since its a 50 yr old car (and a wagon at that!) i want it to drive as good as possible--hopefully get to start on the car this winter....

btw does the steering box off of anything else help out the driveability?

(my future project has neither column or steering box....)

dont know bout that . mines original . thinkin bout going with a taurus rack . my 302 manifolds are so close to my steering box right now i cant even think of leaving it like that . i guess you could use an granada style p.s. set up on it . since its not in the gear its a cyl. off the pitman arm. not tried it though . i also figured out no need to buy expensive motor mounts or make elaborate stuff . to put a 302 in it . just use them for a 80s truck . fit like a charm by adding about a inch spacer between the mount and engine . i got the # for those somewheres

i may wind up with a 302 in it, that was my original plan.....
but i have an eye on a really nice 390 with a mild cam, good heads and a factory 4 barrel manifold bolted to a low-mile c-6 transmission.........surely it has been done before, but is not common enuf for me to say i've ever seen one[S

here's a couple pics of my (hopefully) winter project
