Okay guys. Im looking for some baby moon caps for my 20x8 ram wheels. Im going to need some that will mount on the lugs with a 5x5.5 lug pattern.
I can find them all day long for VW bug wheelsd but thay are 5x100 bolt pattern.
The wheels i have dont have any lip what so ever to mount a cap on so i will have to use the lugs.
Anyone have any input?!

I attached a photo of the truck witht the rims im using.
Thanks folks!

clips

yeah... 3 L clips pop riveted bolted or welded to the rim and 3 stainless panhead screws per wheel. You could even use a pinch of heating and airconditioning putty to set them so they dont rattle just dont rivet the caps on unless you throw a drill in with the jack and the spare lol

How about mounting the moons an inch away from the wheel and putting some lights behind them. while your trying to figgure out how to get power to the lights you'll get the moons mounted without even thinking about it

You could get 4 backup alarms and mount them the wrong way... that would be... I 'll let someone else finish that comment...

worried about drilling holes in a new baby moon? it's a rat rod who cares

aluminum discs

I've seen spun aluminum discs just screwed right to the rim

If i cant find any that use the lugs to mount on, it would be a second choice would be to use clips fastened to the wheel. I just like the idea of factory made caps so they spin true with the wheel. If i made mounts, they would look all wobbly :) (is that a word?!)

Can you use some of those three legged adapters that mount under the lug nuts. A lot of the factory 'locking wire wheel hubcaps' used them. One chromed acorn nut in the center of the baby moon would keep it in place. A lot of the big truck places like Freightliner, Mac, Peterbuilt etc. sell baby moons, or any of the truck parts places for that matter. They also have chrome stacks, various styles of lights, and other cool stuff.

3 leged adapter you say? cant say ive seen these before. Can you google a photo for me maybe?

So here are some photos.
1st is the wheels on the rat.
2nd is the wheels on my dodge.
3rd is the cap on my dodge.

The way these are mounted are the only way i can see to mount these cleanly. Unless i go one of your routs and make tabs or something of the sort.

As you can see in the first photo, the rim has a smooth reveal that doesn't have anything for a cap to mount. My guess is cause nobody but me actually WANTS to mount caps on these rims :p

Go figure, i gotta wanna do the most difficult thing using the most simple parts.

As far as being wobbly if you mount tabs on the wheel that would be easy to overcome. Just mount the wheel, spin it and mark where you're tabs need to be. That would give you a nice center cap!

why do you need them to hook to the lug nuts? just weld 4 bumps around that lip, look at some others so you know the height and what not, sounds like an easier way out then to keep searching,

Look, get you some 5/16" round steel bar and weld you some short pices around the wheel for the new hubcaps to snap to.Just measure how big you want them and order the hubcaps first. That way ,you can use one so you get it right. Don't worry about welding on the wheel, it's a rat rod right? Good luck. [;)[;)[;)[P

Something I thought about was. If you remember on the 80's model GM A or B body cars with wire caps, they had a three armed metal bracket with a nut plate in the center. I believe you can take one of those and cut the brackets to fit the 5.5 bolt pattern and weld them back in place. You may have to use 1" race car lug nuts. Then tack a threaded rod to the plate and measure it out where it comes out through the center of the hub cap approximately half an inch. Run a nut down the threaded rod till it just comes up to the backside of the cap, place a flat washer on the nut. Drill the hub cap in the center slide it on and tighten with s/steel washer and chrome or s/steel locknut, maybe cap it off with acorn nut of the same type of finish. I'm going to try it on mine whenever I get that to that point. I actually placed one of my 41's caps up against the Ram wheel and it looks like it may work. Hell who knows !!! It's like the every other idea, won't know to you try it !!

caps

The rims weren"t made for a cap so have you considered some bullet spider caps and thin trim rings. a baby moon with something sticking through the center defeats the look of the baby moon. Welding a few nubs on the wheel to accept the caps, good luck on getting them ,like you say not to look wobbly going down the road and welding rebar pieces on the rim, well good luck with getting them balanced so you can drive it.Good luck, you"ll figure something out.

You can always cut the center ring out of another wheel and weld it to the 20" ram. Just have to find a wheel that the the hub cap fits on. Find you a tire store that you can spin it up on,to make sure the thing is centered.

Found a picture of the style, this one was on ebay for a Buick or Olds. Most GM with wire wheel hub caps use it for the antitheft. If you do use this idea, get the lugnuts as well, they have a shoulder on them that traps the adapter. I know that sounds a bit goofy, but as soon as you see one up close installed, you'll see what I mean.
