thanks all!

went to the swap meet and found a chevelle center cap for the black deluxe wheel from a cranky guy. also found a chrome headlight ring for my 56 ($3!!) and some kind of weird taillight/license plate bracket. I bought it for the plate, never saw a 53 year riveted to a 51 tag, and after I bought it noticed the bracket.

any iideas what its from? looks ford-ish to me.

When I was a kid, California still issued metal year plates that you attach to your license plate. Stickers do that job now, of course.

The bracket does look kinda Ford-ish. Model A, or so.

Nice finds. [cl :D

it is a model a, you get a gold star. but this is cut from a 53 plate and riveted on. in kansas you got a new plate every year, different colors so they could bust you easily.

visited travis, got the running boards/aprons and whoa black beddy.

stripped whoa black beddy. the floor wasnt too bad in this one but I am running the steel s10 floor. super strong, like crazy super strong. so the wood and the angle strips have to come out.

sawzall and cutoff wheel, not trying to save any of this 70 year old hardware except the strips.

got the bed sides cut for the tubs

attachment.php

had to do a lot of trimming on the s10 bed, my friend needed the bedsides for his blazer roadster project (to cap the top of the fenders with the bed rail) and used his wavy line guide to cut the floor. I got it all sanded straight though.

can step back further to check wheel alignment now, looks right to me.

enjoying the sun on his shoulders.

hit up storage to pick up the yellow fenders. no messing with hardware here either, just 1/2" socket on my small impact driver, set to tighten. snap snap snap. I brought cutoff wheels as a threat but didnt need them

attachment.php

did I show off my lights yet? need a yard light and another at the end of the driveway, no yellow bug lights here just 400W HID haha

more tomorrow!

Love watching how you have these down to a science. [cl[cl[P[P[/QUOTE

Me too, it's like you've done this before! Your wheel/fender opening alignment looks perfect, and that so important in my mind.

Nice lights too. Those things will be seen from space!

thanks fellers.

weather was looking hot in the afternoon so this morning I popped the bed on and supported it so I could line it up.

its a little hard to see but the center bolt of the fender is exact center of the wheel arch, and its centered on the axle. the bed gap is 3/8" at the center of the cab, you might remember I shortened the frame 6.5", the extra 0.5 for this exact reason, to tighten the bed gap. I really like setting my own wheelbase, so much flexibility.

the shortbed s10 floor is about 3" too short so I left the front panel long so I could bend it down to close the gap. the rear gap touches, its great.

it started to get steamy so I took a break inside by shortening the bench seat risers. I always want to do this on every truck but never did, now I can say its totally worth it. that overbite is at the back so I just made sure to piece it in and weld it solid, no one will see it.

I had mrs joedoh try it out since every truck prior to this she has complained about the seat height. she is shy but I snapped a picture anyway, beg forgiveness instead of asking permission, right?

now I can send it off to be recovered.still deciding between black on the seat or matching the champagne mist I will paint the dash. I flip and flop. I love classy interiors.

started mocking up the running boards to set the bed height. tomorrow I blow it apart for finish welding and installing the HVAC firewall chunk.

you guys are the best, thanks for checking in!

I needed the bed tacked together before I pulled everything apart, running boards only take me a couple hours after the truck is rolling so I can wait on those. I got it square and aligned and tacked it all in.

attachment.php

that pictures was after I fixed the bed. the drivers side of the bed was really wagged out, the tailgate didnt hook because the bedside was 4" away, and the bed angle was yanked out of place too. you can kind of see it in the previous pictures I had posted. old school damage needs an old school repair, so a c clamp and a ratchet strap sorted it out.

attachment.php

I still have to cut the front panel to fit.

took it all back apart and finish welded all the mounts and squirted some paint on the frame.

attachment.php

it was hot as hell today, so hot I looked like I took a shower after shoving the frame around. I planned to do the cab work outside, but if the weather were a rapper it would be MC Hotasf**k so I tried pushing the cab on the dolly inside. it ALLLLLMOST fit, it was hitting the cab lights that I planned to take off anyway, so a couple minutes with the cutoff wheel and viola! it fit through the door.

attachment.php

I got everything ready to start welding in the firewall chunk and tried out the champagne mist interior color on the piece I was cutting out.

attachment.php

more to come, I hope to have it put back together by friday, jeremy is coming saturday to shorten his frame.
