Well, fellow RRR members Please shed a tear with me just so I feel a little better!
For some unknown reason while driving my 29 sedan to work early Wed. morning I WIPED the camshaft in my 427 talldeck!
Not getting too excited about it but a bit sad!
Stuff happens!
Will do a tear down and update soon!:( :(

That sucks......!!!

Was it a flat tappet? I've heard more stories about the lack of ZDDP and cam problems....I've got friends that won't even consider a flat tappet anymore...a shame.....I see that Lucus has oil now for older cars/cams....
Still a shame....I can relate to your frustration....it does suck!!:(

Bbc cams

Yup, i feel ur pain - i shelled mine and a pushrod, and well it needed to be redone for some time and i just killed it. There is a new modification that my machineist is doing to the lifter bores, he gots a fancy tool that puts a groove frome top to bottom of the lifter bore on the bottom side to oil the cam more heavily. And yes my rebuilt is gettin a bit pricey:cool:

That's what you get for driving your car ALL the time [ddd
That is a tough break but I'm betting you'll fix it and drive it some more:cool: I wish I could get mine on the road so I could wear it out :D
Get busy on it man, cruising season is upon us

Thanks guys for feeling my pain!
I'm not sure what caused it,but I;d say it was several things!
I DID use the zink additive every oil change,so dont think that is an issue.
The engine has gotten hot on me before from air pocket in cooling system?
Had an issue with moisture (milk) in the top of the valve covers from starting it up pulling out of shop and shutting off starting up pulling in shop and shutting off and not letting engine warm up and causing condensation.
The cam was a CRANE cam that I had special ground RIGHT BEFORE Crane went under.(could be a FRIDAY cam) [S
Cam loped hard at low idle and may not had gotten enough oil to cam!
That's my ideas of what could be the cause of failure !
With only 12k miles on it,that's still not right!

Well i only had 500 miles on a new cam, and i had milky oil as well from a head problem, and my springs had way to much pressure for the cam i ran. But fur shure check into that lifter groove mod

Sorry bout the problems , now that cruzin season is apon us. But back in the day when everthing was made in the USA, we didn't have these problems...I'm jus sayin!!![P

Update !

OK I have a plan of attack now!
I will be taking the 427 TD that I wiped the cam in
OUT and go through it and put back together with a RV cam.Once that is complete,I will pull my 454 out of my 83 duelley and put the 427 in it[P....................then go through the 454 and put all roller parts in it (thumper cam) and instal it in my 29 sedan![cl
Truck will then have torque motor and sedan will have torque and lots more
Horse Power![dr
Now I gotta get busy![ddd
I'll keep ya all updated ! Stay tuned![P[P[P

Update !

OK finally got a chance to pull engine out of sedan Sat.
Pulled intake and you can physically see the cam damage on rear 3 lobes.
From what I have been hearing, several people have had same problem with Crane cams.
So anyway taking block to engine guru/ builder and having gone through today!
Going to put mother thumper cam back in!
Once I get all back together the sedan will be for SALE !
Having shoulder problems and this car is aggravating them even more.
So when sold I will use money to build Nash wagon ! Way more comfy!
