Looking good, 1x2 tubing makes a great foundation. What wall thickness is it? If it's thinwall like .063, I'd recommend welding a sleeve into the tube so it doesn't crush down when you crank the mount bolts down. If it's 1/8" then that's probably not an issue [P[P
 
It’s 1/8. ZZ.
Heavy stuff which is why I went with it.
When I channeled the truck cab on my last build I used 1x1 that was 16 gauge.
This body is way heavier of course.
I will have at least 4 of these as cross members and main body mounts.
Then I will fill in as necessary with the 1x1.
The floor will be 18 gauge.
I tend to over build when doing things like this.😎

Moving forward.....
No Way to bend this heavy wall stock so relief cuts and welds it is.
Fits good.
Now to decide the thickness of the damper pads .
The frame swoops downward as it goes towards the firewall . I’d like to follow that so I can have as much room between the floor and the bottom of the dash as possible.
It will either be a puck (1” thick) or 2 layer of recycled rubber flooring ( 3/16” thick.)
I’ll decide that tomorrow.

No progress today. My back is only good for about every other day on this floor stuff.
I also have a couple of more sticks of the heavy 1x2 coming in Monday.

Made up the trans mount today.
The cross piece is removable.
Clean up and better welding once I pull the Engine / trans out to work on the frame this fall.

Looks better than the stock cross member.


Just curious, would the stock S10 cross not do the job?

Speaking from experience, I'm sure the S10 crossmember would need to be moved back a whole ton. If he had it, they're pretty awkwardly shaped too. Sometimes they work, sometimes it's easier to make a new one.

Now that I think about it, I had to rearrange the stock cross member just to get a 305/200R4 in my chassis for the 39.
 
I had the stock crossmember Skip. As snopro stated it would have been more work to move that one back as well as modify it to fit in a different part of the frame.
This one is simple and strong.( I’m still simple just not so strong any more.)

Front floor cross member/ body mount welded in.
I put these on a stand as the S 10 frame is boxed from the B pillar forward.
With the stands I can sneak a nut in their and it levels the floor too.
Side rails are in.
Next is some braces from the side rails down to the door sill.
Then a couple more 1x2 cross members.
Keep on keeping on.....
