They seem to become family members.I have had to to do the same thing that you have. Its really hard but in all its better for the animal in the end.Boy that was a big cat.

I feel for you Don.Its better that it did not have to suffer through this.

Don, very sorry for the loss of your friend. A few years ago we took my son's oversize Doberman into emergency, and were told we wouldn't be bringing him home. Neither of us could stay with him. The vet assistant gave Dante 2 dishes of ice cream before he went to sleep. I cried like a baby for days. Have wondered ever since if I will ever cry that much again. And, I've second guessed the decision to not be with him when he went to sleep. I have his ashes, paw print, collar and photo on my shelf. And, I've got tears in my eyes now. I believe when you love your pet as much as you do, it will cause a bit of sadness from time to time. We just learn to live with it.

Again, thanks for the nice, comforting words everyone. This is the day I have known was coming for a while, and have been dreading it terribly. I'm kind of better now, but I think the realization hasn't really set in yet.

Sniffy is sitting on my bed now, and is going to sleep in here for a while till she becomes more accustomed to the other cats and them to her. Her day has been pretty upside down too.

Time will help heal us all.

As a cat lover myself who lost one at Christmas I sympathyze with you. Cats are the coolest animals around and it's a shame they only get to be with us for 15 years or so. I have one that's 11 and if she went through what yours went through I would have to do the same. The right decision was made, my friend.

How did I miss your 1st post...

Sorry it took so long to add my heart felt sympathy, loss of a family member especialy a friendly furry one is so had to bear.

best wishes to you and the rest of the family.

Thanks guys for the kind words. Yep, it's a hard hit when this happens. I'm sure people who aren't animal lovers can't understand it, but we who are do.

It has helped bringing Sniffy to the house to be with the other 3 cats, both for her and me. She has fit in really well, and even the two male cats who like to wrestle are not bothering her. She is actually about 8 months older than Scoot was, but has always been more active and slimmer, so I hope she lives a bunch more years. Don't want to be going through this again any time soon.:(:( We always felt Scooter would go first because of being so overweight, but every diet we tried did zero, she was just destined to be a fat cat.

Sort of on a funny note, usually every afternoon my Son's two male cats and I curl up under a quilt and take a nap on the couch.........Chewy lays on the armrest of the couch by my head, and Lucky sleeps curled up on my legs. Well, Sniffy took the spot on my legs today, and Lucky looked dejected. I found him hiding in a closet, so I carried him into my room (where they are never allowed) and he and I took our nap in bed. You could see the look on his face like "wow, I'm really allowed in here!!"
