When i first started seriously considering a military vehicle that was not a jeep.
I was suprised at what seems to me to be low prices for BIG trucks.
I just thought they would cost way more than they do.
For the price of a good used pickup
A guy could buy a 5 ton 6x6

Danny fixed/fabbed/finagled the
Parking brake and lever until it is solid and functional
Everything had to be reinvented because of the motor and tranny swap.
It changed everything
Danny and merle also helped me with the wiring.
Its really close to being done enough to drive in safety and comfort for the winter

Update
All that work was a fantastic success
It shifts with a smart click into each gear
Steers easier than my dodge 3500
Stops admirably
And is very quiet in the cab.
this is what my mechanic buddy said.
She handles nice! all that sound insulation Bill putt on does its job nicely! Took all the kids over to the fields and we found a spot to build a fort! :)

Already thinking shocks and swaybars.
if I don't look out
This thing is going to drive like a modern 4x4

I guess I have been pushing myself too hard and now i am paying for it with back pain.
I take a bunch of tramadol so i can do a lot of work on the ambulance
And since it doesnt hurt i keep going and going.
But then when the pills wear off..
Ouchy wa wa!!!
Thank goodness that it is basically done and ready for winter.
Thanks to Danny Lautenschlager and all his hard work!

Since photobucket has gotten so clogged with ads it is basically broken.
I am going to try something else.

Going to cut a longer slot in my tranny hump so that (hopefully) the parking brake will fully engage.
Try and get the turn signal indicator to work.
And connect the throttle cable.

I shortened the parking brake rod once more and by George i think we got it this time.
On the drive home i got a whiff of hot brakes so once it cooled a bit i loosened them just a tad.
When i drive the couple miles to work i will check it out and see if it is hot again

Sometimes I worry about the pitting on my tranny gears.
Then i think
Screw it
Drive till it blows up and buy another
Np435s aint exactly rare

So far mine has
12 volt
318 engine
435 transmission
205 transfer case
Power steering
Locking hubs
40,000 BTU heater
and lots of sound and heat insulation.
Interior lights are LEDs
Complete new wiring throughout
Electric wipers
Thats all i can think of right now
I haven't decided on disc brakes and road gears yet.
They are both expensive.
What makes me undecided on the brakes is.
Even if I dont go disc
I still want new lines, dual cylinder and booster
And if I am going to all that money and time
Wouldnt it be worthwhile to just bite the bullet and upgrade all the way so that replacement parts are cheap and everywhere?

Covering tranny hump with old foam sleeping pad.
I am gluing it down and holding it in place with bags of lead shot while it dries.
Its soft enough that it conforms to the curves very well

New can bracket and fresh paint on the cans
And i did some stencils.
This kind of stuff is fun
Some of the other crap i hate.
Like wires....
