Most people just have soggy yards and a constantly running sump pump. It's starting to dry up a little finally.
Don't feel too bad for river rats. If you want to live on the river you better expect a flood.
That's a pic of downtown Davenport IA - it's a self inflicted wound really. There are 5 cities that make up the metro area and the other 4 built levies years ago. Davenport didn't want to ruin the view of the river. The only other place that gets it is a subdivision that was built below the flood plain in the 40's.
Doc was right on the money - we had a temporary flood wall break. Usually, at worst it surrounds a few riverside businesses and the ballpark. IMO the city relied on the temporary barriers too much - they aren't designed to handle prolonged flooding at maximum height. They say this is the all time record height and is the already the longest, plus it's forecast to last another 30 days.
