The shop only looks clean in the pictures... it's the filter I use on the camera..

I have been spending a lot of time in the shop but it doesn't feel like I'm getting a lot done. I bought a Woodward Fab powered 24" bead roller and a HF english wheel so I've been busy scrapping sheet metal...
I did some sand blasting on the rear lower body and there are more than a few holes. I knew that before hand but the blasting really opened them up...
I've been feeling a little paralyzed by the back half of the car. There's a lot of work to do around the wheel openings but I wasn't sure where to start... the back half needed more support so I built some new supports to carry it. I also started replacing bad metal in the wheel openings.

Back to work...
It's hard to believe it's been a year since my last post. I've been extremely busy at work and have been traveling a lot... so ALL my projects have been on hold. Until now; I hope.
I'm still at the back of the car. I had most of December off but I had a lot of household projects to do first. I spent quite a bit of time working out how to make the body piece for the rear bottom. I made 3 flops. The first one was a practice piece just to get a feel for the bead roller. The next two were just too aggressive. I was trying to get the whole width and it became apparent that was not in the cards.
The piece I made today came out pretty good. It's going to require 3 pieces to do the full width. Still a lot to do before I tack in place; it feels pretty good to be working on it again.

It's amazing how my time gets high jacked by others. All my kids are grown and all but one is on their own. My wife works full time and values her free time as much as I value mine but somehow I don't seem to have enough time... when I had no money and a house full of kids time was all I seemed to have...

I've reached a point where I'm ready to start on sheet metal work... but as you all know welding on the body is easier when the area being worked is horizontal (or nearly). I had been looking at rotisseries online and they just seem like they are designed for big car bodies. Plus where do you put it when you're done??? My neighbor has one at a friends house and I really don't want to be the new storage site for it. So... I started making one. I figured if I was going to make one it should be adjustable in case another project comes along
So here are some pics of what I have made so far. I had most of the steel but I didn't have anything that would telescope so while at the home center I saw basement jacks. I bought three heavy duty ones online, $64 apiece. So far I have about $250 in it.

Very cool idea. No better feeling than doing it yourself. Saving money feels good too.

got the body on the rotisserie
I set the body on the rotisserie today and adjusted it so the body spins with little effort. It holds any angle I rotate it too; I set the hole pattern for locking it at 22.5 degrees. If something different is needed I'll just add the holes. Originally the center of rotation was 36" at it's lowest but that put the bottom of the body 30" off the floor which was just too high. So I took 8" out of it. Setting all the way down I can rotate the body 90 degrees without hitting the floor; it won't go all the way around though. It'll have to be raised a little to do that. I adjust it with bottle jacks, it's a little tedious but it goes pretty quick. I have less than $300 in it and it should break down into small enough pieces to store without taking up too much space.
Now it's on to the body... this should make it really easy or easier...
