Another piece of the puzzle arrived this morning from Australia. Need to purchase a coil and a plug lead set next. Then time up and fire it up to see if it's got oil pressure and do a compression test.

Bought leads and correct coil for distributor. Ran into issues doing the bottom cog swap, I'll need to take it to an engineer to machine it out. Also realised the the Holley is missing the fuel banjo. Have ordered part.

Edit finally got a exact surgery date, 9th September. Hooray

Dad came over and inspected the lower cog. He said to run new one as original is worn. So put the washer on, put the gear on UPSIDE DOWN. The bottom gear is now the same height as in the original. Bore hole, put in roll pin. Remove manifold, find TDC on number one, and fit distributor. Feed leads through spaces on intake manifold. Draw filed the riser top and bottom. Made some super thick gasket paper and chopped out gaskets. Everything got fitted and buttoned up. Banjo fitted. Mounted and wired coil. Modified coil lead to conventional terminal. Bought a fitting and fitted a mechanical oil pressure gauge. Dug out a fuel pump and got that ready. Startup on Saturday with any luck

Had a go at getting this running. Cranks over but kicks the starter solenoid out. Backfiring through carb. Due to the distributor being so close to manifold means I have to take it off to check it. Dad came around today and I pulled the manifold off while he was here, and sure enough, I had made a hash of it. We retimed it but the gasket hooked up and broke a chunk out of it. I'll order another one tomorrow and try again. Watch this space

It runs! Carb needs a rekit, which I've ordered. It was a bit flooded (pulled number one plug to check spark, it fired up immediately on 5!!!) and it ignited a pool of fuel under the exhaust. Me and old man had a laugh and a half about it. Sounded healthy.

Put a Holley TricKit through the carb. Due to my hands being as useless as tits on a bull it proved to be Ummm interesting. Got it back together but 2 base screws have walked away. How I don't know. I was super careful as its the first time I've actually stripped and reassembled a carb. I will have to go scrounging....

Better than having two extras and finding out they were the first two that you should have put in.

Found a thread saying that the two bolts are not supposed to be there so put carb back on

Bought some engine mounts. They are originally for a Nissan Patrol 4.2 turbo diesel. Need to gently cut 20mm off the inside edge.

One last post before surgery tomorrow. Then countdown starts for getting back into it. Lift body off, remove engine, remove and replace/refabricate gearbox mount.
