[S Not counting your time I assume :D And I agree, it is definitely MUCH COOLER :cool:

I don't even bother putting my time spent on a project into the equation, the only way I can measure it is in smiles and the satisfaction of doing my own thing.

Frame and many other bits all painted silver and re-assembled, body work is next.

Getting closer now - epoxy primed, bondo'd, primed, blocked and primed again, just one more block sanding to do and it's painting time.

Paint is on at last ! No matter how well everything goes, when I get to the clear coat, I always seem to get some lovely runs.....:( I'm so tired of sanding , I think this one will retain all it's glorious orange peel and runs for now. Once it's dried a couple weeks, I may sand out the runs.... or not........

It looks outstanding! Do you have a paint brand/type preference? Do you hang plastic to keep the paint off everything?

I keep telling guys there are highly skilled fabricators and metal men on RRR and they give me that blank stare. I wish they would tak a look at your work.

Thanks Bob, it means a lot coming from you. I'm using PPG products since that's what my local parts store carries, though they've changed their product line a lot with the environmental rules getting ever tighter, I guess this oil based stuff is all going to go to water based eventually. Yes, I hang a plastic wall and put a fan under the edge, everything goes up out a roof vent - not the best setup but it works for me, I've painted 10 cars this way so far ( the floor is always changing colour :D) - oh yeah, some always gets out so there's a lovely coat of paint/bondo/metal dust on everything in my garage to make it more interesting.

Can I see a couple of Pics of your bead roller? By the way love the build.

Thanks,

Here ya go, it's kinda barbaric but only cost about 20 bucks for the steel from a scrap yard. The gears are from an old hydraulic motor, dies I made on the lathe, a bead set and a single step set, an old steering wheel to turn it - easier than a crank when you don't have a helper.

At a car show on the weekend I made the mistake of commenting to my wife on 'orange peel' on a paint job - naturally she pointed out that the my paint job on the cart had lotsa orange peel......:( So I've been doing the one thing I hate worse that bodywork - sanding and buffing paint. Ugh - long way to go but it's getting there.

Well, basically finished now, some more buffing to do on the paint - in the right light, the colour shows better. It's been a fun project and though it's just a kart, a lot of the build techniques translate well to hot rod building. My apologies for the shiny paint, but us old farts like shiny things, plus my wife would have killed me if it didn't get painted. :D
